Oh wow. I didn't know or must have forgotten. I hope the Warriors lose more than ever now. Ridiculous to give that amount of money up for a ring with 4 other allstars and 2 top 10 players. Seriously ridiculous.

cousins has looked solid in limited minutes since his return. sure better than what a ton of people were expecting for a big coming off an Achilles tear. he could very well be setting himself up to make a lot of money finishing up this year. he took a risk sure but as of now, the outlook is looking pretty positive for him

Well i mean if you make all things equal he should have done just as well this season on the Pelicans. Regardless he will probably be losing out on im guessing 8-14 million dollars. Even if he gets a max this offseason.

Which makes me want them to lose more. He has looked really good in my opinion for the first few games back. If healthy they are almost unbeatable with him most likely.

I agree with OP. It’s tough to say if they should be harshly reprimanded, but they are damaging the team’s reputation and appeal to other stars. Sure, everyone knows if a team is losing lots of games but a trade demand is low-class imo. The situation escalates to despicable if they’re purposely sitting out games until their wishes are met. The players are eroding any holding power a bilateral contract is supposed to entail.

this is the result of KD b**** ass going to the warriros.
the teams do the damage themselves by failing to build around superstars when they get them. for the most part i feel the rockets have done the same with harden.... he got one year of all-star level cp3, now he is a role player. harden should probably demand a trade next year if they cant figure out a way to improve this roster in the offseason. his prime is being wasted as much as ADs right now.

All he said is that he likely won't resign with the Pelicans, why should he commit to them, after his deal expires? There's nothing wrong with that. You can say that at just about any job. You can tell a company that you are going to retire in 2020 without repercussions, even though you are planning to go to another company. It's not considered bad faith.

Does this apply to just NBA players or NFL, MLB, MLS, NCAA, NHL, and other team sports?

Are you sure about that? I have 50,000 dollars that says he publicly demanded a trade.

If that's all he said, then why is he out $50k?

Hakeem Olajuwon wanted to be traded during his injury, the Rockets front office Steve Patterson I think said he is faking a injury, the owner had a long talk with Olajuwon during a flight, it was resolved in 1993. Rockets got a new owner in Leslie Alexander, Steve Patterson was fired and won Two Championships.
At the same time Steve Patterson assembled the team, drafted Horry, Cassell, traded for Maxwell, Smith, Elie, Herrera, Thorpe. It's unfortunate Steve wasn't given a long stay.

The league should go directly after the agents and take away their right to act as an agent for a given amount of time. As for the player, void their contract and ban them from the league for a certain period of time. It’s true that players should have rights, but cities put up a lot of money for these stadiums and such. Something does need to be done if the league doesn’t want to be affected down the line.

    Nothing can be done.
If they dont get what they want they can even sit out claiming bogus injuries and the league can do nothing about it.
Kawhi visited 10 "experts" to find someone to agree with him that he cant play.
Even Fultz after searching for two years found a quack.

What the team could do is destroy their reputation but that would lower their trade value.
I however if I was the GM of the Wolves would definitely tear up Butlers character in leaks now that he is gone.

We aren't a Communist country, so nobody can force a player to stick with their contract. But, I don't think they should be able to demand a trade in the middle of their contract either, or just quit on their team. The league can change the rules to say play and stick to the contract or lose your pay and be deemed ineligible for a year, and not be signed by any team. That would certainly stop most guys from just wanting to do as they please, regardless of how it screws over their team. Besides, they are getting paid to do the job.

The league can also change the rules to stop the ring chasing Cousins types and to prevent the Mega Star teams from building up as well. What if they change it to where no team can sign any player without paying them no less than 20% lower than the highest offer. A guy could eat that money still, just to chase a ring, but it wouldn't be as easy for teams that already have big salaries to match that offer. That is the only way to keep the teams more balanced. If New Orleans offered Cousins 40 million for 2 years, then the Warriors would have to offer a minimum of 32 million for 2 years. That also opens the field for others to make offers, still gives players a choice, and makes it more fair for all teams. Anyway, that's what I would do.
