First or fourth. With fourth we would play the Blazers. If Blazers and Golden State lose to Spurs and Clippers tonight it supports the current standings as of now.

So when we win against Miami, and Indy, and Portland, and San Antonio those aren't big games? But when we lose to the Thunder, or the Clippers those are big games?

I'd take the Clippers over the Spurs if we got to choose opponents. The regular season might say otherwise, but I wouldn't bet against the Spurs in the playoffs after what they've done the past umpteen years. The Clippers, on the other hand, are an upstart team, and I'm not convinced they'll stand strong, even if they are supposedly a bad match-up.

But, it looks unlikely that we could meet the Clippers in the second round anyway. That would mean the Spurs and Thunder are not 1 and 2.

OKC though is playoff-tested and a bad match-up for us. I might go into the Spurs buzzsaw to avoid the OKC buzzsaw. Except, that is, for the allure of the disaster that would come from the Thunder losing to the guy they foolishly traded away and the other guy who broke Westbrook's knee. Thunder fans would be so pissed and hate us forever. How can you pass on the chance for that? Out of all possible opponents, the animus with OKC would be the greatest.

The 1st seed is still very much within reach and I believe the Rockets will snag it.

Absolutely no reason to even think about match-ups. I believe the Rockets have a great chance to beat anyone they face in the playoffs, especially if they have homecourt throughout.

    I can respect that.

However, if you're going to face down OKC, I'd rather it happen in the Finals rather than early on. You still get the animus, and bragging rights if you win, and you have a deep play off run to show for it.

AND if OKC gets knocked out before Houston, the angst in OKC will enter entirely new heights....

Whatever seed lands us SA in the 2nd round. I don't see us beating LAC or OKC in the WCF but would be nice to go that far.

But, if OKC makes it to the WCF, they'll have that much as a balm. Losing in the secound round again will hurt more.

Of course, this is all predicated on the Rockets actually beating the Thunder. So, I'm also happy to delay the showdown.

Ideally? You would want Dallas 9th and f**k off

    Memphis 8 OKC 1
    LA Clips 4 GSW 5

    SA Spurs 3 Portland 6
    Rockets 2 Phoenix 7

Whichever seed, be it 4th or 3rd, that has us headed for a second round showdown with San Antonio.

We have to hope that OKC and Clippers are either upset or practically demolish each other en route to one team going to the WCF vs us.

I wonder if Morey and McHale are keeping an eye on this.

I'm not sure i really want to get into matchups. Every matchup possible could be disaster against Houston. We've had issues against the Mavs in Dallas and portland. We still have issues with OKC and the clippers, period. Warriors and Suns are wild cards and could be easy to hard to beat. We've owned SA, but we can't expect that to continue in the playoffs. I just want them to get home court. I dont think we win against any one of those teams without home court.

    1. OKC
    2. SURS
    3. HOU
    4. LAC
    5. PORTLAND
    6. GSW
    7. MEMPH
    8. DAL

    RD1: HOU V GSW
    RD2: HOU V SPURS/DAL
    RD3: OKC/LAC

I DONT THINK I FEAR GSW MORE THAN I FEAR PORTLAND. THEIR 2 BIGS, LILLIARD, MATTHEWS AND BATUM JUST SEEM SCARIER THAN WHAT GSW HAS.

    Is this a trick question?

I wouldn't mind the seeding if the playoffs started with the current western conference seeding. Home court vs. Blazers in first round. Away vs Spurs in second round will be tough, but I think we match up better against them than Thunder/Clippers. All three will be tough to get past, if I had to pick one to face I'd want the Spurs.

Hey, can you explain why we do well so much against the Spurs vs against OKC and Clippers? I'm trying to understand more how match ups work, because I know it isn't as simple as OKC and Clippers are just better (I had asked this in another thread but didn't really get an in depth answer)

I want the 3rd or 4th seed, depending on the match up. Either the warriors or blazers in the first round and spurs in the semis. I want no part of okc or clippers.

I sure as hell don't want the Rockets playing the Grizzlies in the 1st round. That would be the equivalent of playing the Clippers or the Thunder in the 1st round. Rockets don't match up well against those teams.

The reason certain teams do so well against the Rockets is because they have the size and strength to neutralize Dwight and control the paint, which is where the Rockets get a majority of their points. The Grizz have Gasol and Randolph, the Clips have Jordan and Griffin, the Thunder have Ibaka and Perkins. Only way to counter would be playing small ball, or enforcing the Twin Towers.

Those should not be count that big! They were struggling a little bit at that time. While Portland can't be treated as elite.
