I am amped about this!! I was going to sell my lot in the 3rd Ward area but with all this redevelopment going on downtown, I think I'm better off building the permanent crib there. I just wish I still worked downtown. :-(

Hmm, so will the club scene shift from the Main area to the area near the Toyota Center? I really hope these projects revitalize downtown. I recently went to downtown Orlando and was extremely jealous as it seemed to be the hotspot there.

No the club scene is really shifting to Midtown. Drive around Midtown on the weekend nights, youll see what I mean.

However, Downtown is still in a full swing revitalization mode....but when its all said and done, this revitalization will make Downtown more residentially friendly with more bars, cafes, and restaurants, as well shopping and other entertainment options including night clubs.

    that looks awesome.

parking and exiting is extremely easy for both astros and rockets' games and when it's all said and done i bet it remains that way after this too.

I got spoiled parking on the street for free. Parking in dallas for the Rockets game was $20. Redonkulous. Stupid Oklahomans.

Discovery Green will be on top of an 630 car underground parking facility.

According to the chron, the two "signature" additions are Forever 21, and Books-a-Million (not espnzone, or niketown).

Frankly, I don't see why girls would go all the way downtown to buy skanky clothes, but if it brings hotter girls to the area, so be it.

Just off the top of my head...:

    Chicago
    Boston
    San Fransisco
    Philadelphia
    DC
    Manhatten
    Austin
CLEVELAND (its a shame... but they have a more developed downtown, and a functional rail system).

I still love Houston, and will always love it regardless, but a lot of that is because I grew up here. If I didn't live here, I'd never consider houston as a vacation spot or a trendy place... unless I was visiting somebody.

You are absolutely right. Most of those cities you name- with the exception of Austin Texas are older urban areas that had early master plans with an emphasis on centralized development. Houston prides itself still on being a free market type city-with no zoning. With no zoning or a master plan - you are left with baks and business downtown and limited retail or restaurants to service people working downton.

The emphasis on downtown re- development is recent. Other than downtown being a central business district for banks and business- Houston never had any wholistic approach to downton development to include downtown living.

I'm not against free market- no planning- do not accuse me of being a communist or something. If you do not have a master plan- you end up with haphazard development and ugly surface parking to service downtown workers.

This city was built on the auto being king.

Houston will never match the cities you name in downtown CBD development, but Houston is making great strides.

It is too hot to live in Houston in the Summer.
