What right does Israel have to build settlements on occupied land?

    Obviously, for the subsidies to be used as leverage we must be able to reduce or enlarge them as we see fit. My response was to the idea that we should remove them completely, which for reasons I stated I believe would be a monumentally stupid idea. But I am quite aware that the situation is not black and white - removing it completely is a black and white type solution.

    The idea is to decrease them when Israel does something stupid and increase them when they play ball. That is leverage. Cutting them off is just like saying "You're mean, I don't want to play anymore". Childish and stupid.

    Our only real problem here is that aside from that leverege we exercise over the Israelis, we effectively have no leverage over the Palestinians. Only the Israelis do, since the Euros are even less likely to stop funding the PA than we are Israel.

    After Israel started *losing* in 1948, it started ethnic cleansing of Arabs from all of its territory. It's starting to be written up in modern Israeli history texts.
