    Not original blasphemy, however:

Quentin Tarantino used Ezekiel 25:17 as an obscure reference to the 1976 film Karate Kiba, starring Sonny Chiba. In this film, a nearly identical misquote of the King James passage is said by Chiba.

    Ezekiel 25:17
The path of the righteous man and defender is beset on all sides by the iniquity of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper, and the finder of lost children. And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious anger, who poison and destroy my brothers; and they shall know that I am Chiba the Bodyguard when I lay my vengeance upon them!

Darn, Rimmy, you continue to amaze. I didn't know anything about that film, or Tarantino stealing the line from it. Thanks!

I am a follower of Christ. I believe that the Biblical account of His Life and Teaching was, is, and forever will be correct/ accurate. Now "church" is another matter. I believe that the modern church is very secular, mostly a business. I find little connection between the Teachings of Christ, His apostles, and the early church fathers and the "modernized" church of our day. Jesus was neither Profit-Driven or Customer-Sensitive. He told the Truth, lived the Truth, and was the Truth. He never used religious rhetoric so common today, He never manipulated, also common. He wasn't building a business or advancing a career. We are seeing the creation of the Laodicien church of Revelation before our very eyes. We may be witnessing the greatest deception of all history, the flesh pretending to be the Spirit.

Don't give me too much credit, there, Deck. I remembered hearing something about it a while ago so I googled and came up with the movie and original quote.

Batman - Funny how that works, eh? Of course, that is really not the whole story so if I was a 13 year old slut who likes to sleep around and do drugs while pregnant appearing on a talkshow circa 2000 I would say, "you don't KNOW me!" I am not, of course, so I will instead drink my tea (lightly sweetened with yummy stevia) in silence.

Do you think there is a law of diminishing returns in Heaven?

Sorry I missed this earlier but wanted to reply to it.

The problem with this POV is that you're asking people to do what is right for the sake of doing what's right. That's easy to say but if we are nothing more than our perceptions and once we die nothing matters why not make our percieved life as comfortable as possible?

If I'm going to die and there's nothing more then why shouldn't I lie, cheat and steal as much as I can if I think I can get away with it without running afoul of the law? You're argument that this life is all you have so you should lead a moral life because its a satisfying state of mind only has to depends on a beliefe in something more than yourself but if there is nothing more than your perceptions why is being moral more satisfying than just full blown hedonism. Afterall its all perception and I enjoy perceiving personal pleasure than sacrifice for others.

The only hell is a guilty conscience. There are no reprecussions beyond the living ones. (hey I didn't design this world, I'm just trying to make the best of it)

I am thinking that the Dubiist revolution will provide every one on the planet a ray gun of annihilation. ( we will have our robots build them) If every person you come in contact with had the power to off you, you would probably smile and wave.

    No, any more questions?

You should read Thomas Merton's Seven Story Mountain. It's a good read. I'll stop badgering your beliefs now.

Do you believe religion actually prevents this things from happening? Some of the worst offenders will proclaim their belief in God even while they are offending - and some will even do it in the name of God.

Being a moral and ethical person does not depend on the threat of hell for some people.

Badger away, I always said I would rather believe in an afterlife, it would be so much more comfortable. But it requires a leap of faith I just can't make because it just doesn't make any rational sense to me.

I hash it out about once a year on the BBS then I remember, I'm really not doing anybody else a favor by instilling doubt. So...I'm done for this year.

When the whole world looks insane to you it's probably you that's insane anyway.

I thought there was large concentration of Jewish people in the Bellaire area. I went to a Kroger over in the Meyerland area, and they had an entire aisle of Jewish food to itself.

That is true but some people need it. The ideal is that people should do the right thing with no thought of gain or fear of punishment. Unfortunately that's not an ideal that many people live up to.

I don't believe in a Heaven or a Hell personally but I can see how a belief in Heaven or Hell is a big motivator for ethical behavior.

Brand new things come with labels from the manufacturer.

This thread is not recent, but I just saw it courtesy of another thread... How can there be NO Jewish posters on this board?

Very strange. I'm inclined to speculate on the matter...
