OK, I'll limit it to deserts and forests and other wild country west of the 100th Meridian, east of the Pacific, south of Canada (except for BC and Alaska) and north of Mexico. See, I'm humble and stuff. Happy?

This question kind-of, sort-of offends me in some small way. It assumes that everyone is religious, in some way, which is not true at all. I'm an atheist, one of many.

I've found in life that most religious people are only religious because they've been conditioned that way from birth, and therefore have trouble conceiving that anyone could ever possibly be not religious at all, not even a little bit. It's a kind of close-mindedness that is evident in this poll.

To be fair, DD listed agnostic as a possibility. In previous polls, someone had atheist, but not agnostic, which irritated me. It's no secret that I'm agnostic, although I respect those who have faith in a greater power than themselves. I think love can cause people to do acts of tremendous self-sacrifice. That may not be religious, perhaps, but love has a higher power of it's own.

DaDa's not a professional pollster! :D And he's hardly complimentary to anyone regarding faith. He lists himself as an agnostic in this very thread. I imagine this is a semantics thing, furious. My guess is he meant agnostic and atheist together.

Agnostic, leaning heavily towards atheist. Living in the south has helped cement that lean.

There is a big difference between agnostic and atheist. The agnostic person believes in god (or something like god), but doesn't conform to any particular brand of faith. An atheist doesn't believe in god at all.

In my experience, people who lump agnostics and atheists together don't respect the beliefs (or rather the non-beliefs) of atheists - they think that EVERYONE is religious in some way, and that atheists are just way down on some sliding scale, with the potential to move back up to agnostic or even further. But the truth is that agnostics have much more in common with Wiccans or Scientologists than they do with atheists - the former are just different forms of belief, whereas the latter has a complete absence of belief.

Sorry to be so heavy on this, but going through life as an atheist isn't easy.

    Furious

    I find your protest interesting
Is not believing. . . a religion onto itself?

I was under the assumption that the question was
WHAT RELIGION DO YOU FOLLOW? [I assumed the disclaimer
OF THOSE WHO beleive in one was obvious
    My mistake]

I don't mean to offend you
    but
I feel Atheist are ever bit a religion as any other
Their God is MAN and Their Methodolgy is Science.
. . which takes just as many LEAPS of faith
    as
    alot of Religions . . .

Hmmm. I can sort of see that. It wasn't until I left the South that I realized the percentage of stupid people is not appreciably higher in the South, it's just that they're better organized than the other parts of the country.

It is interesting how many Muslims we have here, the percentage is a lot higher than that of the whole country, interesting.
