What I am saying is that in doubles it's far better for the two players to have different specialties. Of course either player will and need to play at all positions from time to time. The "differentiation of labor" is even more prominent in badminton.

Nothing anymore, but I won all kinds of college tournaments in singles and doubles.... Haven't played in a couple of years, but my serve is unreturnable... DD
I dare anybody to list a more pathetic sports career than mine... My biggest regret was that I've never played any organized basketball. There wasn't much demand for skinny 5'7" white guys that couldn't shoot. In 7th grade football, I was a linebacker. Of course, nobody ran any pass plays, so I couldn't pass rush. I had one tackle the whole season Soccer - fullback...not fat enough to be goalie, but not coordinated enough to be a midfielder or forward. I got one chance to score a goal in a blowout, but I kicked it wide. Baseball - 2nd and pitcher. We only won two games. Swimming - 50 meter freestyle and the 2rd leg of the 4x100 freestyle relay (generally where you put the slowest leg) Maybe I should have joined the A/V club or something.
Ah, can't fool me. I happened to be a pretty good tt player myself and serve was also my best weapon. I know how to read different spins. BTW, didn't they allow junk paddles in college tourneys? You know those rubber-less paddles are good at neutralizing your spins.
I used to HATE those paddles, but I got good enough at disguising my spin, so people would think it was one thing and it was another. DD
I was only good at Football and wrestling. As I've always said, if the object is smaller than me, I suck at that sport.
Basketball - PG (Most of the time) SG Soccer: midfielder, but not in organized games with refs and everything only with friends.
