Seems like a stretch. Lin is playing the third most minutes on the team and Asik the 4th most. Both are playing career high in minutes and Patterson got less minutes than either Lin or Asik.

Nah. Phil Jackson would be nothing without the talent he had to coach, same with all the "great" coaches.

People completely overestimate the coaches, not that they aren't important but talent is everything.

extra 4-5 wins will position us safely for the playoff run...

playoff run is very impt for this young team as it will provide the experience they need to go to that next level... and will greatly help us get the next super star we always wanted...

a playoff run will also push morey to keep the players we have now...

if we miss the playoffs you bet your butt that the roster will be shuffled again next season ...

now we are only 2-3 losses away from loosing the 8th seed...

So Two guys that lost their starting jobs had issues with the head coach? Not very damning, especially considering both were traded at the end of the season.

I don't know, maybe it will come out that half the team hates McHale, but I have seen nothing to lead me to believe that the players don't like playing for him. They certainly still play hard for him.

Why are you so surprised by that? A good coach is one who himself has a 0 +/- in terms of wins. A great coach is one who himself contributes greatly to the team's wins. Right now McHale has costed us at least 4-5 games, so we're in a hole in terms of coaching. We need a good coach just to get us back to par.

He is 66 years old, he isn't a long term coach anywhere...

Also if he is a coach to build around why has he been a half dozen places?

um yeah captain obvious, both were brought in by the FO to be starters. Last season, they effectively played back-up in their respective teams, of course they'll both have career high minutes this season.

And yet the Lakers look like crap with all the talent they have right now.

lets see the half dozen places:

    Portland Trailblazers= finals appearance
Sacramento Kings = west finals appearance (almost beat Kobe and Shaq in the prime of both of their careers)
Houston Rockets = 22 game winning streak (2nd longest in NBA History) despite losing Yao to injury.
appearance in 2nd round of the playoffs taking a prime Lakers to 7 games even without both Tmac and Yao.

Now lets see Kevin Mchale's resume...............

You are dense... Next time read everything I wrote.
Asik and Lin are 3rd and 4th on the team in minutes...

    You didn't answer my question...

But how many titles has he won?

He has coached: Drexler, Porter, Vandeweghe, Kersey, Webber, Peja, Wallace, Bibby, Ming, TMac, Artest, Mutombo, Love and others and still has zero hardware.

If he is a coach to build around why was Minnesota the only team interested in him?

For the record I never said he was a bad coach, he is a good coach, but the guy has been fired multiple times.

Lots of starters lose their starting jobs in the league but not many have issues with their headcoaches.

Rarely do ex-players said something negative about their coach after the trade. To have Mchale and players brought it up over media should be alarming. It was bigger issue than you think.

McHale is not a player coach and nor is he good at managing his relationships with his players.

I'm surprised to see so much love for SVG. He never impressed me that much.

He didn't impress Shaq or Chris Webber either.... but the fact is there is not much out there.

With that reasoning.... all we need is a player that would net us 4-5 additional wins.

its cheaper, easier and less risky to replace a coach than to add a player...

and why does it have to be one or the other? can't we do both? replace the coach and add a player we will get more total net wins?

How do you figure? The Rockets have a few replaceable players....

Furthermore, how many "ideal" coaches are available that can net you those 4-5 additional wins compared to a player(s) that could net you an additional 4-5 wins.

He's been coaching forever. He's a hall of fame coach. He's better than 90% of the other coaches that have been in the league.

We didn't have Beverley or Thomas Robinson before. As they say it doesn't matter who starts, it matter who finishes. Asik and Lin played zero minutes in the fourth quarter in the loss versus Dallas. Lin hasn't played a minute in the fourth quarter in three games.
