I use OSX and XP. Linux always looks rad until you realize its pointless. I like it as a server OS but nothing special as a personal OS because software support just isn't there. Vista on the other hand is a memory hogging, hard drive wasting mess. Its a perfect representation of what's wrong with Microsoft and their approach to software. They need a renaissance like Apple did with Mac OSX and just redesign the whole thing from scratch. There's so much unnecessary legacy code that bloats the whole thing. I use OSX and XP. Vista = garbage.
Vista woks fine for my cpu at home. I dont run that much software on it so the memory issues dont bother me at all. I have no need to Linux but I want to check it out anyway. Some people say that fine art is pointless too but I still like it. The Ubuntu + Beryl Cube Animation does look cool though. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BR8JoHxgf7M&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BR8JoHxgf7M&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> OSX is for people that look like Steve Nash.
An untimely disaster forced the issue: Vista How I miss my XP, but I'm thinking of going back to a two system office again. Laptop with Vista (ugh) and a mac desktop for the graphics side of my work. One question for the dual users: How easy is it to connect and transfer files between the two without having to go through a network? In my "untimely disaster" I also got the Verizon package but that won't let me network my computers, although all computer can get to the web (frickin' Verizon). So the question remains: can I get a desktop mac os to share files with a Vista (ugh again) laptop? Is it a simple usb wire type of connection or do I just need to get use to using an usb flash?
XP Pro on both my laptop and desktop. I want to attempt to run dual operating systems at some point though.
I have a 13" MacBook and I like it. I think it is fine, but wish it was just a little bit bigger. It's too bad that Apple doesn't make a 14" because that is the perfect size.
I have a mothballed old laptop with XP on it for when I need to use windows. It hasn't been turned on in a year. I have work's MacBook running 10.4 for doing video. I like it okay, but I think the GUI has some flaws. Things get lost when I have a lot of things open. My old PC I built 4 years ago is running Ubuntu 7.10, and it's by far my favorite machine. I guess it can't play games so well but for work (imaging / finance / journalism / etc) it's the best. But then...how important are games? I've been using UNIX in general for a decade, and Ubuntu for 2 years. The newest revision is pretty remarkable, I think. It's really come a long way.
I bought a new laptop awhile back that came with Vista, so I decided to install Ubuntu on my old laptop after a couple of years of trying various live CDs. It's fine, but it's nothing special. The biggest thing it has going for it is that it's not Microsoft. There's nothing wrong with it per se, but it's not for me.
vista ultimate, got it for free but i dont know what the hype is all about, works just as fine as xp nothing more.
to get your ubuntu looking rad like in the videos you have probably seen requires a lot of tweaks that can be difficult if you dont know what your doing i really don't see why anyone would use ubuntu unless they were a programmer using it as a platform
My brother did it and that's the only reason I know about it. He is a programmer though. But I don't know how much he actually uses it.
NOT TRUE!! Far from it............I almost just bought a Macbook, but I just couldn't justify it. I configured a Dell to be BETTER than the Macbook, and after tax and shipping, the Dell came in under two grand, and the Macbook came in at over $3300. Mac's better be good if you're paying thirteen to fourteen hundred for an OS. Then again, Apple's OS is now much more business friendly.......it comes with bootcamp.
I don't like the fact that apple still won't release the OS to use on PC's. Then they know their hardware sales is going to go down a lot. 2nd it's much easier to make your OS stable when you only have a limited number of hardware to work with. That's what sucks for microsoft..too much crap out there that everyone wants support for. Drivers, drivers and more drivers... When hardware doesn't work on a microsoft OS, people go ballistic. But if it's a mac, people just accept it and go oh ok. I even tried liking OS X but ugh..window management is horrible. Their version of "maximize" is just wierd. Not to mention X doesn't mean quit. then I miss having the "file, edit, format" menu on top of a window, not on the very top of the screen.
