Palin brings less to the table than anyone you named here, and also less than anyone McCain faced in the primaries. You can't pee on Americans heads and tell them its raining. McCain's choice was a purely political decisison. McCain '08: Country Last
Ridiculous. So that's why he 'wrote' two books and used political favors to land Michelle a cushy do-nothing, high-paying administrative gig? That totally blows your shell of an argument up. Joining the military, and putting your LIFE ON THE LINE is as selfless as it gets. Organizing communities, lecturing in academia, and writing books -- well -- that's just not even comprable. What in the water out there in San Francisco that makes you guys believe this guy's hype? Just a different value system, I suppose...
Man, the GOP has really brow beat that party line into your head, haven't they. Try not to be too subtle about it.
Hah! Are you serious? Does anyone besides you not know the decision was purely political? Even Rush Windbag acknowledges that. Do you think he is also "slanted"? McCain barely knew her and made a last-second decision. It's hard to have an intelligent conversation when stating the obvious is called "slanted". Making Kay Bailey Hutchison choice would have been more political? Unless you've been in a cave, McCain chose Palin instead of Lieberman (his preferred choice) to placate the the right-wing. Choosing Kay Bailey would have made Dobson & Co. pitch a royal fit. She is a lot different from Palin. McCain made the uncourageous choice to placate his base.
That's why I cannot wait for this win in November. The arrogance of some Republicans is disgusting. They call Obama elitist for his comments about those in America who have been ignored and screwed over for 25 years, PEOPLE HE WANTS TO HELP, yet idiots (with no sense of their apparent hypocrisy) can talk about citizens of this country as if they don't deserve to live here. It's ****ing sickening and one of the reasons I wish the whole Republican party could be buried in the ground (that is a metaphor before some RR accuses me of wanting Republicans killed...I don't).
What's silly about the "San Francisco values" thing is just this: (1) Obama does not represent San Francisco values. Ever the city's democrat mayor is seen as a conservative freak. (2) Matt Gonzalez represents San Francisco values. (He's on the Nader ticket.) (3) I have consistently been right of center for people in San Francisco (just to give you some perspective). It's like saying the GOP has Couer d'Alene Values! (With Palin, it actually does, but I digress.)
Lets not lose sight of what they really mean when they say SF values... they're really good at disguising bigotry.
I smile a thousand smiles when I sit back and think about the subtle race/gender baiting and political fear mongering that has taken place in the past, and how eventually, and inevitably, the liberal side of progess always wins out.
Political fear mongering isn't exclusive to the Republican party. BOTH parties do it. Dems do it too.
The Democrats might want to do it but they are rank amateurs at it and the stances of tolerance, diplomacy, and acceptance of differing views doesn't lend itself to the tactic like self-rightiousness. The religious right always has the fear of hell as their trump card and jingoist unilateralist always have some axis of bogeymen to validate their patriotic authority.
Dubious although you are correct in your assessment, you might have to use smaller words for some people.
Would you care to post your reasons why Palin deserves support for being a VP and ready to assume leadership of the free world?
I'm not sure who "knows" what I know. If you read my posts I acknowledge that there is a political aspect in every decision made in this kind of selection because it will have an impact. Could Rush be slanted? He's never been a fan of McCain's. Hammering on the "political" aspect of Palin's selection is primarily an attempt to undermine any discussion on her capabilities. How would choosing Lieberman have placated the Republican base-- if, according to your theory, that is his prime motivation is selecting Palin? So what you are saying is that his first choice is to alienate his base and his second choice is to placate it.... That just doesn't pass the smell test, sorry. I think competency plays more into this than you are giving credit.
It's about small government, less government! But please remember that vladimir putin is evil, and he wants you and the american dream dead.
