Sure, T-Mac has had his share of games in which he lit it up in this young season, but since he hasn't been able to do it in every game consistently, such a trade would have still been a steal for the Rockets when you also consider his sore left knee as well IMO. I actually think that if such a trade like that one were to have taken place last summer, the Pistons would be crying foul about getting a damaged good right now, but OTOH, maybe it could have also fallen through because of him failing their team physical if you considered how last summer was a shorter time passed on by after the arthroscopic surgery on that left knee of his was done. Trading away T-Mac itself is not the issue here, it is what the Rockets get in return for him that matters most IMO.
