From the day I saw Drexler play in high school, I knew it would never be. Bernard Malamud has a great description in some story about this guy who thinks he can be a major league player because he's the best in his town. He then gets in a batting cage against the "Sandy Koufax Machine" and realizes he's been fooling himself.
you couldn't touch JJ Redick, he would light your ass up all day and Moochie would beat you off the dribble easily Realistically, I think everyday people could beat Ryan Bowen
This dude begs to differ
The backstory on this clip: Devin Harris was in the UK for an NBA Cares promotion. At the end, someone convinced him Tanner (UK streetball legend, FWIW; his brother used to run an And1-type company featuring a young Luol Deng) was a mentally challenged fan who wanted to shoot with him. Devin Harris Cared; they played to 2. Tanner, not an actual Special Olympian, hustled him . In no way, in a real game, does a guy like Tanner, even with talent, take anybody in the NBA (not currently on the disabled list), much less do any of us have a prayer. As Paul Shirley used to put it, before he gave up his own 12th man dreams, in a world of between 6 and 7 billion people, at any given moment, anyone in the NBA is one of the 500 greatest basketball players alive. Even Ryan Bowen. (Dude shut down Nowitzki in a playoff series; you think you have a chance?) Fat Moochie is still faster / a better gunner than anyone here. Najera has developed a decent three-pointer, which he wouldn't need to muscle over/through us. Redick was, Alford-like, a tremendous college player at an elite basketball university. Check out JJ Redick's high school Youtube highlights to see what he does against us mere mortals. Bombs unconsciously from halfcourt against any opponent not 6-6 and with a freakishly athletic hand always in his face. Spoiler With respect to the OP, I venture to guess that he's not one of the 500 best in the world at anything he does. I know I'm not. Within the first five points: "No mas, no mas." No shame in admitting it.
Hoop dreams? I don't think you understand the magnitude of skill level of being a professional athlete.
OP, it sounds like you aren't athletic enough to outwork anyone your own size, let alone people much larger than you (skills or speed ignored). I mean if you can't compete competitively on any level then how do you honestly expect to take on the elite? Having said that, if you hoop, and you can handle the rock... it's not far fetched to fantasize about getting that one up, even if only for one play, on an nba player. I've played my whole life, and I maintain I could play smart enough to outwork and create my shot on a handful of the nonathletic and the defensively inept players like maybe Scalabrine, Dampiers, Jianlian,.... Also, guards who don't play much defense like Brent Barry, Michael Finley etc. Talk about guarding any of them though, now that's just not happening... They would school all of us. It's one thing to score some points, but any of us lay-folk would be one lucky dog to be able to rip, let alone stop anybody on the NBA level.
Better question: could any of us take the top-ranked sixth-grader in the country? Personally, even with half a foot and superior strength, I'm relatively confident I could not. Though, it might be a more interesting game/discussion. (Also: read the daily regimen this child puts himself through to remain the #1 for his age group.)
I was All-State in HS. Scored 42 points in a state championship game. I played for a D-I college before I transferred schools. I can dunk a basketball. I'm still young and in my athletic prime. I give you this background info not to brag, but so you know the level of seriousness when I say: I don't believe I could beat ANY player in the NBA. Not even the 12th man on the worst team in the NBA. I'm not even sure I could beat anybody in the NBDL. The thread starter is seriously delusional. Believe me when I say that the level of quickness and explosiveness of NBA players is on a level that you can't comprehend unless you have had one of them blow by you.
beating someone one on one doesn't mean you are better than them. A fast athletic person off the street could prolly just run circles around a slower guy like Deke. He may be the only guy beatable because he can barely hold a ball at this point.
J.J. Barea. I may not be able to stay in front of him on defense, but im sure i could score on him on offense.
I am 6-6 so I could post/go over the top if need be. Defense would be the really hard part about playing NBA players. It would be SOOOO hard to get a stop. That said, I know I can score on NBA talent, As I have grown up playing against it...
