You know, the one part I really loved about the movie had to be the Junkions who had Weird Al's "Dare to be Stupid" as their theme song. I think the guy who did the Micro Machines commercials was the voice of their leader and everything they said was like quotes from pop culture. I think it's high time we had another movie based on an SNL sketch. Well, there really aren't any regulars that would make for a good movie except maybe Jarred's Room. What would be cool would be a live action version of the X-Presidents. A G I Joe movie should have happened a long time ago. Of course, I get the feeling that if they made that movie today, they'd be battling Osama Commander and Al Queda instead of Cobra.
I think they are coming out with a new movie directed by Joseph Kahn. He said he wanted to direct that movie.
Wreck-Gar, leader of the Junkions, was voiced by Eric Idle of Monty Python fame. The Micro-Machines guy did the voice of the Autobot Blur. They did do that horrible GI Joe move for TV....the one with Serpentor....and Cobra Commander turns into a snake at the end. Stupid movie.
I'm talking about live action though. I found a Joseph Kahn interview about what he'd do with a Transformers movie.
Sorry, I guess I should have seperated my statements some more. I meant live action in response to lynus mentioning the cartoon G I Joe movie. I didn't even know about a live action Transformers movie until you mentioned it.
Like the Hulk and Jurassic Park? All CGI doesn't look bad, especially if and when this movie would be made, the technology would probably get better. I imagine any scene where an autobot or decepticon might pick up a human, they might have a big ass arm and hand for close ups. So exciting.
<I>How To Be Good High Fidelity</I> and <I>About a Boy</I> were both amazing adaptations of Nick Hornby, and <I>Fever Pitch</I> wasn't bad at all, either. Also, <I>American Tabloid</I> and <I>The Cold Six Thousand</I>-James Ellory's (<I>L.A. Confidential</I>) take on the JFK, MLK, and RFK assasinations and the role of the mafia, FBI, CIA, Howard Hughes, etc. Two outstanding novels.
You people dogging out Transformers The Movie need to get off the pipe, because it ****ing rules. Allowing characters to die at all was very unheard of but Killing Optimus was a brilliant stroke, as it was COMPLETELY shocking, the Junkions were funny and the fight scenes rocked. Did the new Transformers suck afterward? Sure. The movie however, did not.
It's not just that they died, it's that they got taken out so easily by the decepticons. I mean, after watching them get hit on tv by the same blasters for a few years, it makes all your heros look like biatches getting pimp slapped when these same guns are used in the movie and instead of burn marks, they blow up. On top of that, they never even spoke, they just looked retarted making "O" faces while their circuit boards exploded. Did they even manage to kill one decepticon? They only person from generation 1 who put up a fight was Optimus.
When I saw it as a kid I loved it but rewatching it now it's obvious it was nothing but a 90 minute commercial for new toys. Maybe it's just the cynical grown up in me. Also, what was up with the one "girl" transformer. Is she like Smurfette? Damn now I got "You got the touch, You got the power" in my head.
Great suggestion. I was actually thinking of this but couldn't remember the title. The only thing I would want to make sure is that it actually takes place in England rather than adapting it to take place in the United States.
Honestly, I really don't have a preference either way. I can't picture the movie <I>High Fidelity</I> set outside of Chicago just like I can't imagine <I>About a Boy</I> set outside of England. Just make the movie!
I'm talking about a big budget (100 million dollar range) major motion picture, with a quality director etc. I think it would do alot better than the first especially with modern special effects.
