I think Jerry Bruckheimer has already been pursuing this. Bruce Willis is going to play the ruthless Jewish military general, Ben Affleck going to play the part of Palestinian "hero", and Steve Buschemi going to play some guy who blows himself up. Michael Bay will direct.
What the hell is "Catcher in the Rye" about? I was never required to read it during any part of grade school or college. Someone let me know what it's about and I might just pick it up and read it.
Modern remake of "War of the Worlds", the "Hobbit" would be great for P. Jackson to make in a few years. "Footfall" would be cool as well as "Lucifers Hammer". The life and times of KingCheetah would make my day as well.
Part of the appeal of the book to people in high school is it's about a young guy growing up in the world (teen angst). Also, it's the preferred book for sociopaths. (just kidding, only Mark David Chapman, some idiot wrote a book saying it made him kill John Lennon) It may not hold your attention very well at this point, haven't reread it since college.
A lot of those Pournelle books would be awesome. Mote in God's Eye comes to mind. From Niven, Ringworld 1 holds fond memories.
To The White Sea by James Dickey would make a great (but very violent) movie. I know someone in Hollywood owns the rights to this, but it's been stuck in limbo for a long time.
Also, you replace the villain with a dog, and you set up that the dog is evil by showing him do this. *lowers eyelids and glances around in shifty-eyed fashion*
I don't feel like reading this whole thread, so it may have been mentioned. But I would love a BTTF 4. Sadly, I'm sure it's impossible to do.
Good call "Mote in God's eye" and "The Gripping Hand" were great. "A Fire Upon the Deep", "A Deepness in the Sky" and "Marooned in Realtime" by V. Vinge would be difficult to translate into a movie like the Lord of the Rings, but would be great if a director could pull it off. Smellin of Troy The life and times of Troy McClure... it would be a classic.
Man speaking of Catcher in the Rye, where is that post about where has poster X been? Now where has the poster known as Holden been? Remember that guy? Did he get banned or something? I'd like to write and produce and direct my version of the Fast and the Furious. I would have some Romeo and Juliet moments in it. I would make a sports movie. Those are fun. But a bunch of them are kind of similar plots. I thought the Original Mighty Ducks movie was pretty good. The third one sucked. Maybe something like high school football in Texas. I think i'll call it Varsity Purple. (and gold) I guess all the good sports stories have been writen about. I want to make an action movie, about a bus that has a bomb on it, and if it speeds up to 50 mph, the bomb is activated. If it drops below 50 mph, the bomb will blow the bus up. I am thinking of naming it "The Bus that Couldn't stop." not the exact quote from homer, but good enough for me.
David Hayter, huh? He might be able to pull it off. I think they're going to lose a lot from the intent of the original story if they try to cram it in to one flick.
I totally second Neuromancer as a movie. That would kick ass. How about Snow Crash, while we're at it? With regards to the Ender's Game series, I'd actually love to see a film about Bean's exploits after the Bugger War, when he tried to stop Achilles from achieving world domination. It's a cool story concept to have genius children used as "little Napoleons." As for the Foundation series, yeah, that would be cool, but it jumps around too often (time-wise). Maybe a movie about just the first book (combined with elements of the sequels not written by Asimov) would be good. Robot kung-fu Matrix-style action! Steamy sex scenes! Chases! Patriotic themes! Ben Affleck is Hari Seldon... Bruce Willis is Daneel... Jennifer Garner as Dors... Billy Bob Thornton is Cleon I... In a Jerry Bruckheimer production directed by Michael Bay. COMING SUMMER 2005. Um... or maybe not.
Forgot about Snow Crash. Brillaint stuff throughout. It sort of ends disappointedly. Same with Diamond Age, but Diamond Age falls apart way before the end.
I have been dying for years to have someone make the Brotherhood of War series by WEB Griffin. Starting with the Lieutenants and ending at around the Aviators or the Generals. That series had the best character development. It would make a spectacular movie or mini series. Also I could handle someone doing the Dirk Pitt books. I mean have them done right. Over the top Special effects. Bruckheimer/Bay type of guy. Just for Eye Candy/kill 2 hours/have a good time.
