Thought about this in the Adam Sandler thread.

Adam has to be right up there, he occasionally tries to "stretch" his dramatic chops with something like Spanglish, Funny People or Reign Over Me. His juvenile comedies have degenerated from "guilty pleasure" to "this might be the worst thing I have ever seen!", but it looks like even Jack and Jill will eventually make money.

Michael Bay- As long as he blows stuff up, in abundance people will pack the theaters. Turtles might be the final, horrible test if people really will watch absolutely anything as long as it is on a blockbuster scale.

Jason Friedberg- Not a famous name but he co-wrote or directed Scary Movie 3, Date Movie, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, Meet the Spartans, Vampires Suck. We can also blame David Zucker who has a hand in some of these...but at least Zucker did Airplane and Top Secret.

These movies use the "throw a bunch of crap at the wall like 5 jokes a minute and see what sticks" school pioneered by Airplane, but without all the funny jokes.

I dunno those are just off the top of my head. Tyler Perry's audience will probably watch anything he puts out there...but he is a little better craftsman than the above. Ditto with Tim Burton, who used to be a really fine talent, but has been making the same movie for 20 years (using the same cast for the last 10).

    Any other ideas.

And yes, before someone points it out to me, it is, in fact a "cleverly disguised, I'm a movie snob thread".

Will Ferral. The man-child act is old. I AM GOING TO YELL AND STRING SOME WORDS TOGETHER THAT DO NOT USUALLY GO TOGETHER! That being said I will be in line for Anchorman 2.

Adam Sandler was amazing in Punch Drunk Love and there are some interesting ideas in Zohan. Yes, I said Zohan.

I was forced to sit through Zohan. I didn't even feel the urge to laugh once.

I know she's been in a few good flicks, and she looks incredible for just about any age, but Jennifer Anniston has to be up there.

I had given up on the series after watching the first and half of the second one. I skipped all of the others sequels but was dragged into the most recent one with the Rock............I really enjoyed that one.

I'm having a very hard time associating Adam Sandler with the word "auteur," although sadly, I think he probably does fit the commonly accepted definition. "Auteur" is usually associated with a director, but while I don't think Adam Sandler has directed anything, I do think it's safe to say that his kind of juvenile, idiotic and toothless comedies originate with him.

Michael Bay is a genre director, but I don't think you can call him an auteur. Same goes for Vin Diesel, Jennifer Aniston, Brett Ratner, and Jackie Tucker - these people are picking out scripts/projects and relying on others (actors, writers or directors) to shape them.

When I think auteur, I think Terrence Malick. His movies are definitely all about his worldview and sense of aesthetic. But even his biggest fans tend to divide over his movies - I don't think I know anyone who likes every single one.
