I think it's at the point of seeing who we can get rid of, ESPECIALLY at the 4. I don't see Donuts surviving at the 5 and obviously our 1 and 5 is super thin. 2 is also thin because Martin is on his way out and Lee is FA. Locks for the team, IMO, are D-Mo, Lamb, White, and Camby if he resigns. Everyone else is pretty much tradebait and our three picks tonight are all expendable if an awesome deal comes up. But solving the 4 position is going to be tough because who is gonna want the players we have there? Scola can be packaged, but I don't think Patterson has a great deal of trade value. Nor does Smith or Morris.
I have no idea what that is even supposed to mean. Would you prefer a Michael Jordan or Isiah Thomas type GM also? They are hall of famers who know basketball too.
Lee is a RFA for what that's worth. I doubt there will be a ton of demand for him. I would expect him back. But I have no idea how we just move Martin. Clearly, there was very little demand for him in the draft, but he does have an expiring contract. That said....I don't see any potential trades for him. This just sucks. Being unable to move Lowry completely ****ed everything. I don't know what Morey can do to balance things out. Does anyone have any random ideas?
A trade for Pau Gasol and sign FA Kaman is the most realistic scenario ... PG: Dragic/ ??? SG: Lamb/Lee (?) SF: Parsons/Rose/Morris (?) PF: Gasol/DMo/PPat/White C: Kaman/Camby Trade: Lowry/Scola/Martin for Gasol ?
I think he means he's rather have a personable guy who manages situations on instinct rather than an introverted math geek glued to his computer screen. It's not really a fair label to either as I'm sure JW doesn't ignore statistics and Morey isn't an oblivious nerd. DD just has it out for Morey/Les and is lashing out at the organization the only way he knows how.
The answer is so vast. It could be any number of trades involving Martin, Scola, or Lowry. Resigning Dragic. So probably trades involving Lowry. Guys could range from Rondo, Josh Smith, Gasol, Rudy Gay we could go after. Preferably young players. Bringing over D-mo. Including some of those newly acquired Pf's in those trades to get the deals we want done. The lineup could still be stacked and improved in this way. Just not contender worthy.
1) Amnesty Martin or trade him for 2013 pick 2) Re-sign Dragic and Lee 3) Trade Lowry, Scola, Patterson to Atlanta for Josh Smith. 4) Roy Hibbert --- MAX Dragic/Livingston/Fortson Lee/Lamb Parsons/Jones/Morris Smith/White/Leurer Hibbert/Motiejunas/Camby/Brockman
Trade lowry, martin and scola and hope to have another 2009-ish type season. I loved the 2009-10 season seeing us over achieve with a young developing roster.
I know what he means. I was just trying to see what he would say next. And FWIW Morey doesn't have a doctorate in physics from MIT. He has a MBA from MIT.
Any other GM: I'll give you 100 bucks fro one of your PF's. (Someone whispers in his ear that the Rockets have like 9 PF's) Any other GM: Make that 50 bucks.
What's frustrating for me and I almost feel like Morey doesn't see this is that yes, competition is great, let the best man win the minutes, but when a lottery player is getting 10 minutes a game every other week, whether he is talented or not, the view around the league is that this guy doesn't have game and thus they lose value. I really love all of our picks, I just hope we make moves before the start of the season so that they can actually get the minutes they should, same for all of our young talented players, whether it is with us or not. We have to showcase our assets better.
Here's a listed I lifted from Hoophype.com and edited slightly to get rid of complete trash. There are still some worthless players on here, but you can sort thru it. I wonder what it would really take to get ATL to move Smith. Yes he is ANOTHER 6'9 forward, but that would really help condense our roster if they were actually open to taking on Scola's contract. And geez ATL is truly screwed. They are stuck with Joe Johnson and Al Horford as their core for the next 4 years. I wonder if we could move Lowry and Scola to Charlotte for a couple future 1st rounders. They are stupid and will always have an inept franchise. They might believe Lowry and Scola make them immediately competitive....but who knows. Just throwing it out there!
