Make it to the end of the year without getting fired. Just kidding, Morey won't get fired. Still, a young GM like Morey, as smart as he is, probably still needs to learn that great teams are teams with chemistry in which the the guys enjoy playing with one another. Players are people, not pixels in a video game: stats aren't everything.

My speculation is that Les thinks of front office people differently than he does operations people. McHale was part of the team's leadership, but he wasn't front office. So, I don't expect Morey will be judged by wins and losses. He'll be judged instead by prospects. If we don't win, that's on the coach. If we can't win, that's on the GM.

cybrex did say in his OP of the "Morey's on the hotseat" thread that Les and Morey made a deal, and Morey needs to hold up to it.

I think deal #1 was Les telling Morey not to tank after Yao went down, missed an entire season and played only 5 more games when he came back. That was pretty much confirmed by Morey.

Deal #2 is speculation. Due to #1, Morey wanted freedom to retool with full FA $ backing by Les to include going into Luxury Tax territory. My guess is it also has something to do with selecting coaches.

Morey claimed he had to talk Les out of firing Adelman at the start of one season. If true, then perhaps the McHale firing wasn't that calculated?

Is Morey still useful to Les on the business side of things? One of the reasons he was headhunted from the Celtics in the first place was his use of analytics and new tech to increase ticket sales.
