Anyone who cares enough to post on this board. The Rockets are a local organization that has been in Houston for many decades. I am a fan of the Rockets, their history and traditions, not a particular group of players that happen to wear the uniform at any given time. I want the Rockets to field a team of players that we can all be proud of. The current group are frankly an embarassment to the proud tradition that is the Rocket's organization and its fans. They play the "stupidest" basketball in the history of the franchise. Plus, three drug arrests in two years. Anybody that takes the attitude that the current Rockets can do no wrong, need no improvements or changes is not a "true" fan, they are well intentioned but misguided.
If us "bad" fans give a $hit about the Rockets, then would there be so much frustration? HtownRocks3, I'd like to introduce you to "common sense", I hope you two get well acquainted.
that is supposed to say DIDN'T, not did. I have never complained about something I didn't care about. I don't think you really are in position to say who is a fan of the Rockets, and who isn't. Especially when you admit that you haven't been following the team for that long. It's one thing to tell the "bad" fans that we should be more positive. It's another to tell us that we're not a real fan.
There is. But what good has come from the last 3 years of losing? It isn't a fluke that the Rockets have missed out on the playoffs this year. If you can't tell, it's a trend.
Not excuses here. But facts. We are 2nd youngest team in the league. This is Yao's first year in the big leagues. We got Posey in the middle of the season. Eddie Griffin is just 20 years of age. With all that fit inside our shoes, we just did miss the playoffs. Why are we against the Rockets as much as we are? Complaining is one thing but don't point fingers. A change in the roster is a part of the business, I know. Frustrations come with the fact that this team is still learning. To be a young team, with talent already popping out like roses in the spring time, I'm very happy. I mean come on, we're in a tough conference here. For example, the Clippers. They have just as much talent as we do if not more. More experience as well. And people STILL say our season was dissapointing? I've said it before and I'll say it again. You can't make all of YOU (as in a whole of all the bashers) happy at once.
It's called progress. We just missed the playoffs this year. Take a little out (roster change)... add a little to it. And boom.. we're playoff bound for 03-04'. I'm going to be one of the fans in the sold-out Houston Arena come home-opener in October/November and that place is going to be louder then hell.
You bring up valid points, but I don't see any improvement from the Rockets over the last 2 years. Eddie Griffin has done NOTHING to make me think he will improve. He will always remain a piss poor inside player, who can only block shots, fire 3 pointers, and grab a few rebounds. That spells out, BENCH PLAYER. Posey more than likely will be gone, so that will be a moot point. Even if I am expecting too much, does it give you the right t question my fandom of the Rockets? There's a world of difference between two sects of fans disagreeing on the state of the team, compared to some fans claiming the others aren't "real" fans. By your logic, anyone who disagrees with you regarding the Rockets, is not a real fan? Please tell me how my thinking that the Rockets underachieved, makes me a fake fan?
If every team compared themselves to the Clippers, there would be 28 franchises who feel they are elite.
Clippers are forever in the "rebuilding" mode and aren't committed to winning. So please don't compare them to us! Actually it's not so much about this "team" as much about the philosophy of "rebuilding" a NBA franchise. Rebuilding a franchise for LONG-TERM success starts from the very top and requires a great deal of vision. And to be very honest, I am not very sure if our managment team has it or not. In my opinion, the main key is to DRAFT well. But look at our draft history for the last few years, there was hardly a pick which we could really claim as a steal apart from maybe Mobley in the 2nd round. Another key is NOT to overpay talent but we did just that with Cato, Taylor, Norris, Anderson and Rice. Those decisions hammered or at least limited our future. We're in the "rebuilding" process since Hakeem retired. I understand it. I expected to take a while but FOUR YEARS and counting? And our current roster is not even complete yet as many of you pointed out that we still need trades this summer. Look at the other teams. Spurs changed from Robinson era to Duncan era without ever missing the playoffs. Pacers too completely rebuilt their roster now from the Reggie era without missing the playoffs. Not to mention the Lakers, did they ever miss the playoffs? Magic changed from a Penny led team to McGardy led team missing the playoffs once. Suns changed from Kidd to Marbury missing playoffs only once as well. Mavs and Kings now became powerhouses only after one to two "rebuilding" years since the new managment team came in. Those are some examples of well-run franchises. Then, why did we take ages to "rebuild" without any success? I know that you might want to point out Hawks, Wizards, Warriors etc who did worse than us but come on I think we are inspired to be one of the best franchises in the NBA. So we need to compare to the elites, not to those crappy franchises. Especially we used to be a franchise which was winning or at least challenging for championships. Missing playoffs for so many consecutive years HURT.
