When you can take a bag of doritos and make the playoffs. When you have the mentality and production to be the best player on the floor all the time. Right now, there is only a few. lbj wade anthony kobe durant howard paul dirk williams nash Tracy maybe was one for a few yrs because of the reflection in the record of when he played vs when he didnt. Yao was never one for the same reason. Come on fanboys, I'm ready for the hate.
A superstar is someone who plays their best when their team needs them the most. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mcae_NBtkb4
Too me here is what makes someone a superstar: 1. Athletically gifted 2. Smart - as in a student of the game 3. Competitive fire 4. Works harder than anyone around them
The ability and willingness to take over the game in the last 5 minutes of play against any team under any circumstances, e.g. Kobe playing with broken right pinky last year, then with broken right index finger taped to middle finger this year & won 2 championships.
Production An elite player who consistently ranks among the top in points, rebounds, steals and assists. Different positions call for more production from one category vs another. Example a PG should rank high in assist and steals while a PF or C should master rebounding and shot-blocking. Statically, a normal superstar in his prime, score above 20 ppg, 8 to 10 apg for a PG, above 10 rpg for C or PF. Awards All-Star: Should be a starter most of his career First Team All NBA: Definitely the separating factor between Tier 1 and Tier 2 MVP: Should remain a contender throughout his career and rank in the top 5 Winning Season: 50 wins at least and a few 60 game campaigns through the years Playoffs: Take his team to the playoffs every year and advance to at least the 2nd round. (sorry T-Mac) Performance[/U] Clutch: Should have an impressive resume of game winning shots or taking over late in the 4th quarter and DOMINATING the opponent. Big Game: The 50 point game, 20 assists night, OR taking down 20 rebounds. Attitude Leadership: He should command the respect of his teammates for his daily efforts on the court. Winner: A championship should be the most important goal of his career Team Player: Plays with thoughts to help his team any way he can. Improves his teammates' game by taking all the pressure on himself and letting others remain focused. These are my bare minimum for a superstar, so taking that into consideration, here's my ranking of the superstars: 1) Kobe 2) Wade 3) Nash 4) Lebron 5) Howard 6) Melo 7) Paul 8) Durant 9) Roy 10) Bosh
^^^^^ If that is what u take into consideration, how is Bosh on your list? The guy has won nothing (only a single winning record in his career), has no leadership qualities, and has shown a bad attitude.
The epitome of the hypocrite. Why do you care so much about this to make a response to him? Seems like you can't get over "it" as much as you accuse him of "it" (note that the two "its" are different in this case). You're fooling no one, you still can't let McGrady go, because if you did, you wouldn't pay half a second to look at and let alone reply to a McGrady "hater."
I think a superstar is when sometimes double or even triple teaming won't work. Their offensive/defensive production is off the charts consistently and they have to be the clear alpha male leader in their team. SUPASTAAAARRR!
Consistent greatness. That basically makes a superstar for me. Screw the other stuff, you could be 4'5 and balding, but if you consistently do enough good things for your team, then you're a superstar. Kobe is a superstar because he consistently gets positive results from good, mediocre, average, terrible situations. Brooks is a star, but he doesn't quite cut the level of superstar because you can't trust him to get good things out of situations at the same level a Lebron or a Wade could.
For me it´s a copmbination of a very proffesional approach to the game, with knowladge on how to take advantage of many of the opponents mistakes. Plus talent, plus accomplishing success with their teams even at cost of it´s own numbers.
No Dwight? I mean the team around him is pretty mediocre. They wouldn't make the playoffs without him
the 3 i mentioned above are 2-way players who can literally dominate both ends of the floor. steve nash is an offensive superstar, but he can give damon jones a run for worst defensive player of all time.
