I agree here. Heck, I usually tell the waiter/waitress to charge me and my party for water so we can leave a larger tip. 95% of the time we get chrged for water so the extra dollar or two goes to the wait staff. I would like to add, if there are picky people at the table, I am definitely one, don't act like I'm giving you a hard time. Your job is to wait on me so I'm sure it's not going to kill you to hear me say hold the cheese on my salad, bring extra dressing, and may I have a dessert menu. I do not like when you have a mouth full of food and the waiter/waitress stops by and asks at that moment if everything is alright.
the best waiter i had was at bennigan's a couple of years ago. he knew the menu like the back of his hand. refilled my drink w/o asking and before it ran out. and the best part? he brought the wrong order and i didnt' even realize it myself. i had eaten all the fries and half of the burger. he brought it to my attention and i was like, "oh yeah, you're right!" well, he didn't even ask if i wanted my other order. said he'd be back, he took the initiative to just get the correct order and gave me a whole new entree. i ate good and tipped him well. two words for you: Exceed Expectations
Truthfully what makes a good waiter is to wait on people as you would like to be waited on.... Just be attentive without being too intrusive. DD
Other than mixing the orders up and obvious stuff, the single thing that amazes me is when a waiter makes me wait when I'm trying to pay the bill. Don't piss me off when I'm deciding whether to just pay double the tax or actually give you a good tip.
