AS JVG will be taking the control of the Game back into the Coaches hands. I am expecting Eddie to go from non entity to involved team player. This season we will see JVG having his players playing more defined roles, each knowing what is expected from him . No more standing arround watching the Guards doing their thing.

    Well said Yetti!

I think this will be the determining season for Eddie. I really think we'll know about 1/3 the way into the season.

all i can say is this is the contract year for Eddie. If he doesn't show up to play this year, then it's probably never going to happen.

i'm crossing my fingers that this is his coming out year.

Yetti, it sounds a bit arrogant when you say "JVG WILL.." and when you say "the team WILL....because JVG WILL..."

Adding an "I think JVG will" or "I hope JVG will" or "I hope the team will" would improve your posts, and wouldn't rub people off the wrong way.

    Just friendly advice..

I think that under JVG Eddie will become a shotblocking and rebounding presence. I think on offense he still won't do much outside of shooting jumpers, which is fine with me since we'll be dumping it in to Yao all day.

What kind of player will EG be next season?

    A BUST (just Kidding)
I hope he can become somewhat like a Camby clone in VanGundy's system but I think he lacks some of the hustle and slashing ability that I'd like to see from him. I cant remember the last time I saw him flash in for a rebound and dunk it home. I dont think he's as athletic and he doesn't have the body type to be a banger. I just hope Gundy gets him involved in the offense and he's not standing out on the 3 point line waiting to brick.

We'll have to wait and see what Van Gundy has in store for him, I'm also hoping that he can pick up a few pointers from Ewing too.

    Raef LaFrentz.

both very good shot blocker, 3-point shooting big man.
but @ this point, LaFrentz has better shot selection, more experience, and much stronger than EG.

i think the prolem is, that rudy wanted eddie griffin to be the type of player, rob horry was! .....so jvg has to transform him into that shot-blocking, rebounding machine :)

Damn! I hate to admit it but you may be right. He DEFINITELY appears to be the same type of player at this point: no post game, so-so 3-point shooter, emotionally fragile, defensive liability.

For what it's worth, folks up here in Dallas are ready to string LaFrenz up and many want to bring their own string!

I think you will see a VERY DIFFERENT EG under Van Gundy for a number of reasons:

    1) JVG will not tolerate anything other than 100% intensity (or he will sit). Rudy was just to lax. EG needs stern direction and will get it.

    2) JVG, along with Ewing, are gonna plant him down low and help him gain confidence around the basket. He should develop a variety of low post moves. I don't think he's gonna spend much of his time hanging around the arc.

    3) He will increase his blocks/game and improve defense under JVG

I, for one, think EG is a terrific talent, especially shot blocking and rebounding. I think he was totally lost and wasted under RT and the inmates. Don't forget he was NCAA freshman of the year. JVG's approach will either make him or break him........and I think it will be the former.

Man, I thought I was hard on Griffin. He's gone from a poor man's Tim Thomas to a poor man's Stromile Swift in one thread. Do I hear a poor man's Billy Paultz? A poor man's Yinka Dare?
