(*cough the rest of the BBS with the Lakers cough cough*) I would give myself about a 6. I really have a couple of different personalities when it comes to the Rockets. During the games, I'm fairly pessimistic. I've always been the type that prepares for the worst, but given time to think about things I see the positives. Afterwards, when I have time to think about the entire scope of the game and not individual possessions, I can see the positives a lot better. I can go from both extremes, dependent on when things are happening, so it ends up balancing out. However, I don't think hating other teams really has a lot to do with how much of a fan you are. We don't really have a good rivalry right now, except for maybe the Mavs. There's a lot of people still clinging to the Spurs and Jazz rivalries from the Hakeem days, but those days are long past. Personally, it's impossible for me to watch a sports game and not have a rooting interest. I'm too competitive for that. Just because you really want some other teams to win after the Rockets have been eliminated doesn't make you any less of a fan.
On this board, I'm probably a 3. But if someone is a non-Rocket fan, then I shoot up to an 8. I don't think you guys need to be told how good the Rox are. But when someone isn't a Rockets fan, then something is wrong with them. How could they NOT be Rockets fans? lol
I'm probably in about the 5-7 range. I love the Rockets. I will cheer for them above all others. And I will judge our players well in most cases. But I'm not blind about what's happening in the league. To me, the 'true fans' are the ones that aren't totally blind ( ) because when you really understand the sport, when you really appreciate the sport, you can see the greatness no matter where you look. And you can understand the shortcomings as well, even if they lie in the spots you wish they did not. You can see the beauty of the sport as a whole.
If the team is from Houston, I'm a fan. (unless Rice is playing the U. of H., then it's Cougs all the way!) When the Oilers left, I almost quit watching pro football. That's just how I am. So I guess I'm an 8.5. The 1.5 left over is for b!tchin' at Rocket players that drive me crazy much of the time (Cato, the Little Dribbler, and so on). Every season I'm optimistic. It got HARD last season!
I'm a 2 with you guys but I'm a 10 with anyone else. Kinda like I can pick on my little brother but you better not mess with him.
I am at maybe 4. I don't love or hate a player blindly at all. When it comes to trades and roster management it's a totally different story, count me at 10 in that case.
I am definitely a 1. I love my rockets, but the main reason I love them is because I think they have a really good front office and their players generally are good sports who love to play ball. I can't stand puss ass players like Shaq who whine and moan about being fouled when it is all part of basketball. He tried to fight Brad Miller and backed the f&*^ up once Oakley got involved. But I know Shaq is a great player still. I graduated from A&M but I hate their football team because I know alot of the staff and RC and they are complete idiots. After the home loss to SE Louisiana in 96' I gave up on the Ags because I cannot ethically root for a team that I know is run by idiots. Maybe after RC is gone. Ok I am drunk and babling after my AM brew, no more posting this morning.
I a blind fan since I ONLY support the Rockets and any other team is the enemy. Hell I don't even watch NBA games unless the Rockets are playing or the game has some ramifications on the Rockets. I can be very objective when describing the Rockets but in a tie, I always go with the home team.
I'd say that I'm 1. But just because a person is objective doesn't mean they wont watch their team during a losing season. I saw every game I could last year (NBA League Pass, Rocks!). I am loyal. But, give me the freedom to criticize when things are going wrong. Hoopgod13, I'd agree with all your comments above except two of them... One, the 1995 season. I felt that once we got into the play-offs we'd have a real good shot. There was so much trash talking from Barkley and Paul Whitfall(sp), the coach, calling the Rockets "roaches," that I didn't think we would let him win and get away with it. Two, I feel that we WILL make it to playoffs this coming year. We have that missing piece! Objectiveness isn't synonymous with pessimism. I feel that objectivity is synonymous with being a realist. Sometimes the truth hurts! And the truth isn't always pleasant.
Wow. This is tough. I can be extremely critical of the Rockets at times, and extremely pessimistic, but only because their losses hurt me so deeply. When they win, I think that they're on their way to a title. I love this team, but damn, they sure can bring some vicious negativity out of me!
I used to hate Charles Barkley, but the moment he became a Rocket I loved him. As much as I loved Sam I am, I have luke warm feelings for him. I guess that makes me a 10 if my love for the Rockets can do that. 10 it is.
I'm about a 6. I used to be a Charles Barkley fan, and then he moved here so I became somewhat of a Houston fan. Then I moved here and started being able to watch the Rockets. When I found ClutchCity.com (at the time), that's when I started to become more and more of a fan. This season I'm gonna try to buy some shared season tickets, so I guess I'm still growing =). Will this affect my number? We'll see if I move to an 8 or a 4.
That would be a safe assumption. As is well known around here, I'm a homer.. I only watch games if a Houston team is playin, when the Oilers left...I DID quit watchin football.. I haven't watched a single NFL game since then...Thank god the Texans are here..I kinda miss watchin... I watch the Rockets always, no matter how painful it is...I will not root for any other team. (Well, maybe if another Texas team is in the Finals) So jot me down as a 11.
would't call myself blind. In matters concerning the Rockets, I try to be as objective as I can for someone who was born without eyes!
