    1. Make a movie.
    2. Credit yourself as producer.
    3. Post that you're a producer, and tell us what kind of education you have.

I get the feeling that being a successful movie producer is like being a good businessman. Instinct, saavy, networking and experience is king. In other words- if you're interested, get a job in a production company and get your feet wet.

Have a bachelors degree in either Theoretical Physics or Bioengineering,

    and a masters in Astrophysics.

A few HCC courses might help as well.

I'm thinking either Ivy League JD and MBA, or USC Film or Media School. Don't superagents, producers and studio heads all come from the same talent pool?

Also probably just being rich and well-connected, producer is probably what Charlie Sheen or Emilio Estevez should have done out of the gate, and what Colin Hanks will be doing soon enough.

This is extremely wrong. It's a varying position. Sometimes it's just the title. Many head writers are Producers of their show. There are exec producers who are kind of like the show runners. Need to be good managers and understand the system.

In film it's a bit more varying. The real higher ups get to assemble the crew: director, DP, music, exec. The basically do everything and choose everything.

The exceptions are when you are dealing with guys like Nolan, Speilberg, Burton, etc. Thats only a fraction of the time.

Absolutely no one will care you took classes at UH. No one. Having a degree from a film school is something I guess. It's mainly the work you have done. You will not get a job from any class you took. You need to have many short videos that you have produced. That means casting, scheduling, and all kinds of production planning.

You can intern (unpaid) in LA and hope that you are really talented and hope that you get lucky.

This isn't something you just decide to do one day. It's a culmination of years in the film industry. Years of experience.

That doesn't mean you can't do it. It means to skip the classes and use that money on producing films.

Since the producer is presenting the script to the director I was wondering if the script needs to be in full detail or just the idea of the movie? You can Always hire a professional screen writer to add the dialogue and details but should it be done before in talks with directors and production companies or after?

I'm actually getting into filmmaking myself...even going to school for it. You have to really be dedicated to get anywhere in the business. You cant just wake up and expect to be producing awesome movies right away...

But if you feel like winging it....watch "The Deal" with William H. Macy and do exactly what he does.
