I bleed Rocket red and blue. I can't get enough of the Houston Rockets. They're embedded in my heart. I guess the excitement...Stevie's crosses, dunks, and big games, Cuttino's explosions, Moochie's game-winners...the list could go on forever. But even though I love all that, and I would have been a die-hard fan anyway, trading for Eddie Griffin was the single most brilliant thing we have done in the past couple years. Eddie Griffin is the epitome of basketball. Go out, work hard, show heart, get the job done. And maybe crack a smile or two if we're lucky. I hope Eddie realizes how much Rocket fans love him, because he deserves every second of that "EDDIE! EDDIE!" He's got so much potential and he's already become a fan favorite. He doen't need to jump on the scorer's table after a winning dunk and strip...he doesn't need to go out and score 40 points...he doesn't need to cross up people and explde through the air with a flush in traffic...he just needs to be Eddie Griffin and keep doing what he does. G's got all of it...and it may be because of his demeanor that everybody loves him so much.
Above all else, I think hanging on requires loyalty. Some fans treat a team like a way to pass time and others treat their team like a marriage. Most of us on this site treat the Rockets like a marraige. We went through the glory years and enjoyed them. Now we look for the next good years.
I always hope for the best for the Rockets,I'm intrigued by the potential of our young players and I wish to see them mature together so we can get in the playoff picture by the end of the next season and eventually with some luck and lots of hard work we may become NBA Champions in the future again.
What keeps my attention? Why do I still bother being a fan? I have been a fan of this team since I can remember. I could not imagine changing to another team - loyalty, I guess, has a part to play in that. I am also dead sure in my heart that this team is going to make some serious noise in the future. Steve Francis? Eddie Griffin? Cuttino Mobley? Mo Taylor? We're one great big man away from a decade's-worth of upsets in the NBA. This team has monster (proven) talent, and the youth to sustain it. I am 100% sure that Steve, Eddie, and Cuttino will not retire ringless. I believe that they can get that (those) ring(s) on this team. I also believe that whatever the case, this core of youth will provide everyone who really does love the Rockets with another 15 years of excitement, joy, occasionally some pain, and ultimately a sense of triumph that no other team could give me. My level of attention has markedly dropped this season, but there's a simple explanation: who likes to watch their 'family' getting beat down by fate? I still pay attention nonetheless. I eagerly await next season - a healthy season, pray to God - where we can begin to see this team's potential fulfilled. I am not a bandwagoner, I just find it difficult to watch this particular season... I am still salivating over the prospects for next season. I pay attention because I love this team, and my faith in it is greater than my doubt.
i'm a friggin' stat freak. i have to watch (or, in my case, listen on league pass on nba.com) every single game to keep up. i am devastated every time they lose and very happy when they win. i love to watch eddie griffin, steve francis, cuttino mobley and i talked to kenny thomas two years ago at a game at chicago so i am forever in his debt.
