Can you name any teams out there right now that DO feel like a "consistent championship team" ? Maybe San Antonio, but they've been pretty set with their team. For each example, I'm wondering whether those guys proved themselves in practice or preseason or spent some time on the bench first, or if they were immediately handed minutes. And if the guys that were handed minutes had viable options in front of them.
sure, JVG needs to learn how to lose by 28 points, even when the other team plays its scrubs the entire 4th quarter.
I know that Biedrins was impressive in practices and that an assistant coach (not sure which one) was very high on him. Plus, his production this year has been very impressive so far this year, and he has earned his minutes. Monta Ellis started receiving alot more minutes once Baron Davis was hurt. He started producing right when he got more minutes, and is now starting in place of the injured Richardson. Matt Barnes was getting minutes when Richardson, Pietrus, and Davis were all kinda injured or off-injured. He played well and put up some good numbers, but he is now back on the bench riding the pine. He's still young, and if he finds a home where he can get regular minutes, he'll be the next Kevin Martin. So of the 3, only Biedrins had any viable options in front of them before they got any serious minutes. The other 2 were just very opportunistic and took advantage of the playing time they got.
What JVG can learn from Don Nelson... That Dallas didn't make the finals with Don Nelson - it did it the first year they had defensive minded Avery Johnson running the show. What else can JVG learn? That Detroit stopped making the finals when they went from defensive minded Larry Brown to offensive minded Flip Saunders. That the Suns run and gun offensive haven't made it to the finals. That defensively minded Pat Riley's Heat have. So have the stingy SA Spurs. Any questions?
Some of the replies are really tunnel vision. Things I didn't claim: - GSW is a better team - Nelson is a better coach - Nelson's way gets success In fact I completely wish he could learn from JVG. I am just trying to describe a polar opposite from JVG and that I think his confidence and his ability is overstated to a thick stubbornness and inability to change. Maybe I didn't communicate well (I did not grow up with English only) but here is a good example of things I wanted to add from a post by DD: Nelson did not just try other players because of injuries. He has repeated many times in interviews that he needs to see the full extent of what all of his players can do in the faster paced NBA.
you earned some self fluff.........no doubt about it. Rocket fan for life, but it sure was (and probably still will be for the next few weeks) fun to watch your Warriors.
JVG should go back to Eastern Conference. I said it long ago that Western Conference is only for the best. Your teams will get eaten alive by the future HOF coaches. There is no place for weak links in Western Conference.
