i am sure he and chase will be working out this summer. having his college teammate there will help him get confident playing with his teammates. nba off-season pickup games should help his game grow this off-season. chase knows how good he is and watched him win battles in college. that will be HUGE for team practice.
Chase needs to stop practicing his agility on the sand (literally-he did this every summer before he got to the NBA) and start working on his core strength some more.
Pbthunder already touched on it, but I'm not hoping we can be a contender on a small payroll. If we are paying Bosh 22 million it becomes very difficult to keep our current core. Brooks, Scola, Lowry are all due a raise. Martin is already making 11 and Ariza 6-7. Then throw in the fact that yao makes 17 next year and we're strapped. Getting Bosh would mean that we're going to have to say goodbye to players, not in a trade, but because we simply can't afford to keep them. Les said he's willing to go over, but I don't think he would that much. I think holding on and maybe trading Scola later for Jefferson makes more sense. Jefferson makes significantly less (14 for 3 years compared to 20+ for 6) and we wouldn't have to pay Scola 7 million dollars to be a bench player. Also we may be able to squeeze Rubio out of Minny if we offer the right pieces.
I met him and in a room of 10 people or so maybe a bit more, plus Budinger, he was awfully shy (which might explain his play a bit). Oh well I got to chat it up with him because everybody went to Bud  Spoiler
When did Minnesota say they were trading Jefferson? Has Jefferson said anything about exploring free agency this summer?
This is a really good post. I like Bosh, too, but people have become so obsessed with getting him that they've forgotten about the price (which does affect how good the team will be), and are ignoring what's right under their noses. It's nice to know that even if Bosh doesn't come to the Rockets, the future looks pretty bright anyway. I think people are doing the same thing they did last year and ignoring the liklihood that our young players will improve. It happened with Brooks and Landry, and it's likely to happen with others. People should probably be more excited about having Hill than they are. Maybe we shouldn't be looking at him as merely a nice trade chip.
Hill seems to have a good nose for the ball and a fluid offensive repertoire. If I were his adviser I would let him go to Rodman for some rebounding and defensive lessons this summer.
Even though Brooks and Landry improved, they didn't take the Rockets to the playoffs. They are roleplayers. As long as you have only roleplayers and Yao Ming, the Rockets will continue to be a lottery team or a one and done team.
That would be true if he were an unrestricted free agent, but he is a RESTRICTED free agent. His only option would be to go to Europe if he didn't like the NBA offer. DD
Nope, it's still true. As a restricted free agent, the Rockets could match an offer from another team, but it would not have the 48-hour trade clause. If you have an example of a restricted free agent being traded to a team that they don't want under the current CBA, I'll be happy to listen. http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#Q36 http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#Q78
I was assuming the Rockets had agreed with someone to trade, and that it would include Luis........at a much higher contract rate than just the 1 year tender. My bad for assuming. And he could refuse to sign and go play in Europe ala Josh Childress...... DD
The Rockets had Scola, Landry, Brooks, Lowry, Budinger, and Taylor. Getting 2-3 more roleplayers through Hill and more late draft picks isn't going to turn them around. Only so many roleplayers can play at the same spot. Hill turning into another above average player is not going to push the Rockets. Picking up another Budinger or Brooks is not going to do it either. There are only so many minutes to go around.
