I think the wider population doesn't pay attention at all to politics or their civil duties. But they do pay attention or get pulled into memes, generated outrage, and politicized wedge issues, but mostly at the surface level. D&D to me is a poor sampling of the wider population, but yes, the topics here are out there, at a lower temperature, if you will.
