Yeah that damn Stock shot is it for me. I was working at Channel 2 as an overnight editor at that time and I remember going to work that night (1am) and everyone at the station was so sad and all the photogs and reporters that covered the game was still sitting around the newsroom in a daze. That night sucked!!! The Robinson tip-in that knocked the Rockets out of the playoff drive was bad and that Sonics loss in in game 7 in '93 (I think) was bad too!! Just for your information, That Oilers-Bills game in '93 still kills me today!!!! I still want to cry!! ya know what though!!! I bet all of us didn't feel nearly as bad as those pathtic Cub fans today!!!!
Yeah, I was visiting Houston at the time (I'm from the Philippines) and was attending my first ever live NBA game, watching my favorite team, front row seats! It was special because I could have watched in LA, SAC, or SF before (where I had been a lot of times years past). Until the Rox turned my excitement into crap from the moment of tip-off... That hurt. A lot.
I was there...I looked over at my brother and said "you mean it's over" and all he could say was "I think so"...the entire crowd just sat there stunned for a few moments that seemed like an eternity.
I was at that game, too, RRG. Could not believe it...'stunned' is the only word to describe it. My only solace was the amazing time I had at the previous home game of the series(game 4?) where Eddie hit the buzzer beater...definitely the best game I've ever been to. runner up for me would be game 4 vs Seattle in the 96 playoffs...two-time defending champs getting blown out and about to be swept, when Horry goes on a rampage of 3's to send it to overtime, only to end up losing anyway. The end of the dynasty...
I was happy that day. But not for long. Seeing Barkley hoist up 3's and try to act like "the man" while being out of shape was the worst. The Stockton 3 didn't hurt at all because I felt we were going to lose all along. It was only game 6, I believe game 7 would have been in Utah.
1) Stockton's 3. 2) The ball being called off of Horry vs. Seattle. 3) Losing to Bird and my Dad's cursed Celtics. 4) The way Dream went out.
Signing Cato to the contract. At the time I was really pissed about passing up Cwebb to sign moochie/taylor/rice trade but Ming erased those bad feelings. Passing up shard in draft still ranks 1#. Passing up shard again last summer comes in #2(even though at the time the Rox had a good excuse with Taylor being out of shape and KT probably leaving)
It amazes me that Rockets fans never saw the problem with this. The guy came in and demanded Hakeem's spot on the court.
During the 96-97 season, I turned on the TV and began watching a Rockets game (forgot who they were playing. As I was watching I witnessed the most awkward, off balance, disturbing, disgusting shot ever by an NBA player. That player was Matt Maloney. He made the shot. I went to school the next day and I was talking about the shot with another Rockets fan and we both agreed that it was disgusting. God, just remembering that shot is hurting my pinky toe. Also, obligatory, "STOCKTON FOR THREE!"
It's too easy to say the Utah game. I had a chance to go to that game (but my brother decided to sell the extra ticket to Dave E. Crockett instead ). He said there was a girl next to him that was sobbing after that shot. Of course, the Rockets shouldn't have had to rely on that shot anyway, and yes, game 7 would have been nauseous to watch.... Anyway, my least favorite moments are last year's game before the AS break. Against Cleveland. And they lost. 105-102. Also, the game against Minnesota about 5 or 6 years back when Gugliotta got the ball with 0.5 seconds left and made the shot. Just like the Dream's 0.4 shot, but much, much worse.
Watching Bill Walton celebrate a NBA championship on national tv in 86 at the Rockets expense! I still hate Walton!
1.) stockton... 2.) rashard lewis draft 3.) after moving to austin from houston i went to many SA/HOU games in SA and didn't see a rockets win for appx. 10 years! (i do not go there anymore )
For me, it was probably the day Dream got traded. It was pretty devastating to me since he was my favorite player and I felt he would end his career in Houston. I felt like I was going through those steps of...whatever it is...you know, denial, anger, depression, then acceptance or something like that. I really didn't watch much sports when Stockton hit that shot, so I got lucky and didn't have to experience the agony that most of you guys had.
Those are my two, but in reverse order. I was only 12 at the time, but I beat the living CRAP out of my radio (Anything short or conference finals and NBA finals was PPV back then, I think) and threw it in the street.
Yeah, it really pissed me off. And Hakeem still had a better scoring average than Barkley back then. And remember when Hakeem complained about not getting the ball, and Barkley said they should keep things in house? LOL, who is Barkley to say that people shouldn't complain...
