The reason I added the subtitles of European, African, etc. is because at first I was going to put American as the white race which was a very bad thought on my behalf because I didn't want to make it seem like whites were the only Americans and everybody else was a sub-American. Brian and RocketMan are right, you're making it a lot more complicated than it was meant to be. It's just a simple question/poll.
That's another reason I added the subtitles, to find out who lived in America and who lived outside America...geez. Still not that hard.
Okay, I understand. And it's clear cut for me. But maybe not other people. Not that I know anyone, but what would a black French American put? I guess they've figured it out by now. Sorry to everyone. I was thinking about political correctness. I'll stop now I think. I don't wanna piss anyone else off.
I voted for "other" I am white...but I have dual citizenship, so I do not fit into either American or non-American category--or I guess I fit into both.
I am a gook. Sorry but please let me poke fun at me. I think my record speaks for itself. Dang I can't even make a joke about myself.
I'm Chinese, but I was born in Vietnam. To me, that word is as bad as the n-word. So is "chink" and "Jap" for that matter. Heck, I think all words like "gook" sound horrible. I cringe when I hear or read them. Rick Reilly has an article in SI. It's pretty good.
White boy here. You people need to get over your fixation on race. It's irrelevant, and it only causes divisions that are otherwise irrelevant. It's only an issue if you choose to make it one. Most "whiteys" couldn't care less what race you are. We only care about what you do. Individually.

I'm a proud gooky hapa haoli jap! Like someone's sig says (paraphasing), nothing is right or wrong, but it's your experience that defines it for you. I recall a Korean comedian's joke. Went something like this: In New York, they call me Italian. In Miami, they call me Puerto Rican. In LA they call me Islander. In Grand Rapids they call me Indian. In Dallas they call me Mexican. In Oklahoma City, they call me DEAD. I still laugh at that one. RR
That's part of the reason I was being so picky. If you're going to do it, do it right, imo. People are so picky whenever anything else is about race and being political correct, I just figured why not here. But again, I'm sorry. But I agree with you treeman. It does cause further division. On this board, it's real wasy to not judge people based on race (until it's brought up) because you can't see them. Any opinions I had when I first started posting were based on individuals and their beliefs. And that's how it should be in the real world too. Race really shouldn't matter at all.
The only way knowing someone's race is divisive is when people make it that way. Simply knowing that someone is black, white, Asian, or whatever doesn't equal potential prejudice or racism. It's a horrible and ignorant assumption to believe otherwise.
Holy begeezus! What about someone who is green and from Antarctica but living on the dark side of the moon? I didn't see THAT category either. Oh well, I guess they can just check 'other.'
You're right too. Just because I know the race of someone does not mean that my opinion of that person will change. But it could contribute in some cases for some people. To some people (who are racist) isimply knowing this will change their opinion. The point is, IMO at least, is that we should all just be people. By having labels at all, the population is being divisive. When various groups start any club/organization that excludes a race (or sex or nationality), it's divisive. I understand that different races and sexes each have their own interests and similarities, so they naturally stick together. But exclusion of anyone because of their race is wrong and divisive. A simple poll like this one should not (and probably will not) cause any rifts or conflict (other than me and treeman v. rocketman95, hayesstreet and others sharing that opinion). But I do think it is important to recognize race causes division in the real world, whether we like it or not.
Why the quest for one big homogenized population? Its our DIFFERENCES that make us distinct. Sure we're all humans, but we're all DIFFERENT, and that's not a bad thing. We should celebrate our different backgrounds whether that be our race, ethnicity, gender, or nationality.
