American Psycho - that movie absolutely rocked! Patrick Bateman going on killing sprees while listening to the likes of Phil Collins, Whitney Houston, and Huey Lewis, while giving a brief discourse on each artist.

Best Picture winners can never be underrated. Unless it's Titanic which has become fashionable to hate.

LeGrouper, Storytelling sucked ass. However, I did enjoy Happiness and Welcome to the Dollhouse.

I hated Titanic when it came out. I'm a trendsetter. Actually I didn't hate it, but I felt it was definitly overrated.

This is probably my #1 choice, simply because it was so overlooked.

Others I agree with:
American Psycho
Gattaca
Dark City
Galaxy Quest (good call!)

I would also say Three Kings is underrated simply because it was one of the ten best movies of the 90's (in my opinion). And I'd say Brazil is underrated too, because not very many people say it's the best movie of all time, which it is. :)

Some more:
Strange Days
Falling Down
Get Shorty
Spanish Prisoner
Cookie's Fortune
Bowfinger

I've always loved that movie. It's one of those movies I've seen 100 times but I HAVE to watch every time it comes on.

Speaking of Matt Dillon, anyone ever seen Over The Edge? It was one of the first 'teen rebel' movies and IMO still the best to this day.

DCKid, good calls on Falling Down, Get Shorty, and Cookie's Fortune.

I'd add State and Main.

I was gonna mention Donnie Darko, but is it really an underrated movie? Yes it's a cult classic, but it's got so many devoted fans that it's hard to think that it doesn't get enough respect. If you don't believe me, go to the IMDB message board for the film.

Well, when talking about whether something is underrated, I think the two main things are critical acclaim and popularity among the masses. Movies that have cult followings tend to be called "underrated," simply because "cult following" implies that not that many people know about it and/or not that many people liked it. Also, it implies that the people who have seen it don't just like it, they really like it.

Speaking of movies in French, I hear Vidocq is good. I ordrered the DVD, but I just got it today, so I haven't watch it yet.

It's directed by that Pitof dude who's supposed to direct the new Catwoman movie.

We actually studied Grosse Pointe Blank in my film studies class I took at UNT. I thought that was interesting because I had also found it to be an underappreciated flick. It was nice to see that the film professor thought well of it not only as a movie movie, but also as a film worth some study.

Worst movie ever!
