"Real Genius" starring a very young Val Kilmer (circa 1985)

Voice from above: (actually his friends playing a practical joke on him buy wiring his braces to pick up their microphone signals): "Kent, stop playing with yourself"
Kent: "It really is you God!"

Don't see how "Paths of Glory" is underrated, unless it was not received that favorably when it first came out, because everywhere I have read it has been hailed as one of the greatest war (or anti-war) films of all-time.

However, good call, neXXes, on "Barry Lyndon". A movie that is criminally underrated, IMO.

I thought "Unbreakable" was a great flick (although the end should have been different).

I liked "Joe vs. the Volcano" too.

Really? I guess I just forgot about it. For some reason it seemed to me that the movie didnt get that much publicity. Anyway, Traffic was damn good IMO.

    Rushmore

Die Hard -- was publicized primarily by word of mouth at time of release...i think many still see it as just a shoot 'em up...it's a tightly written script and a great story..

The Movie that Had a huge shadow cast over it by Braveheart that came out at the same time was:

    The Shawshank Redemption

Definitely did not recieve the recognition as a truly original and amazing screenplay. The second one is :

    American History X

One of the greatest movies I have ever seen.

Shawshank was overshadowed by Forest Gump, but it was still nominated for Best Picture.
