I believe Castro was a dictator but that the Cuban people suffered more by the hands of American sanctions than by his regime overall. We have plenty of relationships with dictators and communist governments but Cuba's economy was too small and poor for us to care about economically.

The US happily practices hypocritical trade as long as capitalism can be reached for wealthy elites.

I have met a few Cubans who believed in Castro. I have met more who hated him. I think most people who have a negative understanding of Castro don't know how poor people were under the previous regime. The Cubans who hate him I think mostly benefitted from the previous regime and their lives were turned upside down after. I've read a little here and there about Cuba and the revolution and there is a lot contradictory information as one would expect.

If we are going to have somewhat friendly relations with China and Russia, then why not Cuba?

I support normalized relationships with Cuba. Honestly doesn't make sense that we hold this 60 year old grudge against one of our closest neighbors, while having normalized relationships with even worse governments across the globe. Obviously the sanctions didn't change Cuba and aren't going to, but open relations would certainly be beneficial to Cubans and maybe one day help them to find their own democracy.

I dont think it works the same. Castro was part of a military operation.

Our policy towards Cuba has been terrible for over a century, and we just keep doubling-down on stupid. We never should have created Castro in the first place, never should have pushed him away once we did. But it's over now. Past time to start having a normal relationship. We would be better off if we had stronger, wealthier nations in the Caribbean to trade with.
