A framed photograph of my grandfather shaking Joe DiMaggio's hand. My grandfather was in charge of U.S. forces in Japan when DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe made their visit. They posed for a photo op and I have the results. This is a good way to reach 1000.
My aunt was dating this guy who ran a hotel when I was about 7 or 8, and really into soccer. So he goes up to Pele ( when he was playing for the NY Cosmos, and they were staying at the hotel) after a game, and tells him about me, and Pele takes the shirt off his back, signs it, and gives it to this guy to give to me. I still have it.
i have an unopened can of coke with the "HOUSTON ROCKETS WORLD CHAMPIONS" and the rockets logo on it. pretty silly, but i love it just the same. anyone else have one of those?
I don't have a whole hell of a lot. Most prized piece is probably my ABA basketball signed by Connie Hawkins and Julius Erving.
As a birthday present back in the day (95'ish), a buddy who worked for the Rocks' gave me a piece of the Summit floor he had autographed by Rudy, Hakeem, Mario, Cassell, and Kenny. Ahh, memories of the glory days.
I reckon it's the 90+ autographed baseballs I have. Willie Mays, Micky Mantle, Hank Aaron - if they were alive past 1990 or so, and pretty good baseball players - I've got their autograph. Even if they were only good for a short while(Fernando Valenzuela!), I've probably got their autograph my favorite is the autographed ball with the entire 1990 AL All-Star Team on it.
Plus the restraining order signed by Cuttino Mobley's attorney, right? What was the condition, One Major Ocean between y'all?
Not really anything sports related although I had a Harlem Globetrotters program autographed by some of them including by their obnoxious trainer, some dude named Larry (he was great). I don't know if I still have that thing around. I, at one time, had one of the best Uncanny X-Men comic collections in the mid-state for TN, then I needed money and got rid of the best ones. However, I am making a comeback and I have already purchased 3 copies of Incredible Hulk #181 (first Wolverine) and a *supposed* near mint copy of Giant-Sized X-Men #1.
btw someone is selling a rather large collection of rockets stuff on ebay right now, see pages 6,7,8 of a houston rockets search, some very nice old stuff.
no way... I'm gonna pass on that one. Me, Ebay and Rockets memorabilia don't mix... (I'll go nuts and buy tons of stuff)
any memorabilia buffs out there know what a good price would be to pay for a Yao Bobblehead, either the throwback one or the all-star one.
The most unique piece of memorabilia I have is an autograph from Les Alexander on an old Rockets cap. I know that does not sound very cool, but he wore it during game 7 of the 1994 championship game. When the game ended, he took the hat off, signed it, then gave it to my wife's father. (He was a cop who worked security at the Summit for years.) The cap now sits on a dresser in our bedroom. I also have a box of 500 unused red "How Sweet it is / Go Rockets!" signs that they passed out at the summit during the 1995 playoffs / finals. And I also have a bunch of other Rockets and Star Wars crap.
Mine is an old piece of the Summit signed by Olajwon, Eli and Smith. When they changed the name to Compaq, they were selling these pieces in the arena for 30 bucks each, with certificate of authenticity. I got the autographs later myself.
