like many on here i am thinking defense as well...time have changed, the league is not like the era of DA's suns teams...the league does not lack teams that can flat out score...the thing with teams like the warriors, cavs, spurs, or any top teams is for that matter, their defense is top notch. it is what separates them and other playoff teams.

scoring is not going to be a problem for this group, with harden, gordon, anderson, nene etc...our scoring is plenty, what i worry about is done the stretch if we can get crucial stops or not.

Harden's mindset. So far he's the same lazy player with a horrible defense stance

Injuries are the worst with defense being the second highest level of concern. We need to win the turnover battle to beat good teams. Part of that is on offense, but i worry about our ability to get stops/ turnovers that will lead to fast breaks.

I was feeling pretty good about KJ playing next to James, but against a good PG in conley he looked neutered defensively and as limited as always on offense. I worry about pg some, but i think that if he is healthy, gordon can play well enough at that spot for us to win. Wing D is concerning. Ariza may have legitimately lost a step and KJ and brewer are nothing to write home about if the gambles arent going their way. Dekker has potential but needs to improve his stance ( get lower) and work on lateral movement.

Rebounding is also potentially an issue, but given all the 3's teams shoot now, long rebounds are becoming more common so some of that cant be avoided and its a tradeoff between attacking off the break or trying to stay for the board.

shooting will be streaky, but sufficient i think.

It will all boil down to how healthy we are .

That the team's already shaky defense gets even worse. Injuries happen, they are generally a random element and you deal as best you can. Personnel and player moves are something the team can control. Last years team was top 5 in offensive efficiency, but near the bottom of the league in defense. To address this, they hire Mike D'Antoni and brought in Anderson and Gordon. To me that sends a message that the team is not even trying to improve the defense.

    * Injuries are main concern for THIS PARTICULAR TEAM. Every single 2nd-5th option on offense INCLUDING D-Mo has bad injury history. Bev is an injury risk too. If all the injury riks guys are out the same time, Harden might have to carry a team of himself, Ariza, KJ, Harrell, Capela

    Strategic concerns past injuries:
    1) Defense
    2) Rebounding
    3) "Other": Not having a legit 2nd/3rd star past Harden. Ryan Anderson should be the 3rd best player at most, 4th best preferably.

The actual PG position could use an upgrade, that could be concern #3 or 4. Realizations are Rockets are gonna live & die by 3s. Harden is the sticky-balling Point God. This team is gonna have turnovers, again. Rockets are willingly going without rim protection (or defense). Brewer is on the team get used to it, but there are alternatives there.

Really wish we signed Bismack Biyombo. He's a guy that doesn't need to be a big part of the offense but can get you mad boards and blocks. Too bad he got overpaid.

I thought they changed the hack-a rules for free throws, did they? That sounds like a really viable strategy against the Rockets this season if they didnt considering they have no rim protection outside of capela.

Injuries is my number one concern. We brought in three player who are injury prone, Bev is injury prone and if we do work out things with DMo, it's not a guarantee his back would hold up.

Defense will be another major concern.

Finally, turnovers will be a big time issue with this ball club.

This was the worst thing about last season. Hope it's fixed.

Great post. I like KJ starting with James. If he figures out that 3 pt shot our back court will be deadly. You're right about Ariza. He may have lost a step, because something looks off. Hope it's just preseason, but it goes back to last season.

I'm concerned about actually winning the championship this season. That would mean le$ owning the team for another 50 years and we'll be stuck with the awesome spacesuit jerseys for decades to come.
