the group of rik smits, vlade, robert parish, brad daughterty, Z.. etc
yao is probably more gifted offensively than most of these players (commends double teams)
but 20-10 don't mean a thing when 3/4 of the teams in the league looks at you as a liability defensively, which is why yao belongs in that group
    no? am i wrong?

Are you freaking joke me....Yao has weakness on the D but he isn't as bad as most ill-sited fans say he is.

-JVG commented how good his D is
-Teams score on average 5.4 more pts when Yao sits
-Yao's defense rating is 99 vs 100 (DH) for the career
-Ever Since Yao's been a rocket, the Rockets have been top 5 on FG% allowed, while the roster has changed around him
-Apparently defensively he is good enough to stop the most dominate Center in the league...

I mean good lord he is slow but he is not a liability on defense just because Utah decides to have a 3point center and JVG insists on Yao defending Carlos Boozer.

I know if DH was from ranked from 1-10 being a 9, you would rank Yao a 5. DH is better, healthy and younger but he isn't better than Yao by a wide mile like you pretend it is. Its more like 8 vs 9.

I tried not to make this a Yao vs DH but some of your comments makes my head spin....

I'm confused. Your argument throughout this entire thread has been that Dwight is better than Yao.

Yet you come up with copouts, like Yao gets injured, or Yao only got out of the first round because he had Artest.

Of course Dwight is the better center, logically speaking, if Yao is injured, solely because Yao can't produce night in, and night out, physically. His talents aren't there on BSPN for the world to see.

And again, the Rockets are in the WEST. The West, where there is Duncan, Gasol, Bynum, Nowitzki, and to a lesser extent, Pryzbilla, Oden, and so on. In the East, there's...Garnett? Rasheed Wallace?

Sure, Garnett is a pretty good defensive player. But when you have Yao playing against the best big men in the NBA today, more often than Dwight, Yao's numbers WILL diminish.

I'm still confused. Why are you against Yao, anyway? I thought people are supposed to like the roster that the Houston Rockets have. But all I've heard from you is Yao hate.

i'll still watch and support the rockets regardless if yao's playing or not
reading some of the posts in this forum, its obvious that many here want them to lose this year just to prove yao's importance on this team.. those of you should go to yaoming-only-fan board.

i agree, yao was about a 5.. now he's probably a 3 with injury taking a toll. he'll never be the same when he comes back, its not possible after 5 surgeries, just like tmac, thou that's remain to be seen as tmac was a freak athletically

but think about it, its not just boozer that abuses yao over the years
my estimate about 3/4 of the teams in the league looks at him as a big time favouriteable mismatch.. agree?
and to be fair, its not yao's fault. its just the way the league is today. there's no place for a slow aging center. centers shoots 3s and run and cut
do you remember andrea bargnani last yr, that sums it up if you even know the guy

anyways, probably 1 out of every 3 poster is a yao only fan or his countryman and whatnot.. its not like i'll make a difference

good luck with his recovery and hopefully he'll come back and contribute

I doubt the Rockets organization would make someone soft and overrated the face of the franchise.

damn sounds like u just got a vendetta against the big man. truth is if you're 7'6" or 5'8" you're gonna get blocked it's part of basketball, you can't find a player in this league that hasn't been blocked. lil nate has swatted a lot of big men, not just yao, the guy's got major hops.

what i'm confused about is if you're a rockets fan, it's almost inherent that you should root for the big man especially how well he conducts himself on and off the court, unless that doesn't really matter to you. and he's coming off a potentially career threatening injury. maybe it's just me, but i enjoy rooting for nice, humble, and down to earth people, and i root harder for those on my favorite team.

some may say he's underrated, some say overrated, but honestly does that matter? Great big men are much harder to find than guards and in the majority of cases, championship teams have great big men. so regardless of anybody's perception of whether yao is properly rated in the spectrum of great players in the nba, it is undeniable that he is one of the best big men in the league, and given the scarcity of those types of players, it is wise to not take that for granted.

You don't have to be Chinese to support Yao, just a Houston Rockets fan.

I guess enough is enough. Back to the topic.

Jason Friedman conducts an interview with Yao and his personal trainer Anthony Falsone last Friday. Videos of the interview can be found in the following link.

    Here's the excerpt.

[rQUOTEr](Yao on his conversation with Cleveland Cavaliers’ center Zydrunas Ilgauskas prior to undergoing surgery this summer):

I really appreciate him. We had a talk before I had this surgery. Obviously people know his injury history and he told me about his experience about how he felt after the surgery and his rehab experience. I think that’s really helped me and made me relax because during those days before the surgery I was really, really nervous and really tired of hearing different ideas about how to treat this injury. Hearing his voice has really given me the confidence to come back to the court. [/rQUOTEr]

Yao, Duncan, and Al Jefferson are the most dominant players on the block in the entire league.

With Yao, we have legit championship aspirations.

    Oh yes. Definitely.

They need a coach, and a Tony/Manu if you will...

I like the direction they are headed in, but why in the hell did they screw up the draft like that? Flynn was a good pick, after that it was just awful...
