Lets take it even further with Orlando Magic team.

    Dwight Howard surrounded by

    Rashard Lewis
    Hedo
    Nelson
    Pietrus
    Lee
    Redick

All them can shoot the 3. How many of those type of players do other teams have that are not specialist at the 3 (the only one there is Redick), the rest of the 5 where more than just 3 point specialist and they can stay on the court longer than 20 minutes.

Its almost a no brainier how magics can deploy a strategy like this, I mean Rashard shot over 500 3pt attempts, who can you name on our Rocket team can take 500 3pt attempts and convert them 40% of the time.

Dwight may very well be a big part of it, but its crazy to think those 1-4 are not helping with those numbers. If Dwight was surrounded by a PF who can't shoot the 3(Scola, landry, Chuck Hayes) or players who average < 33% (T-mac) life time average on 3pt's those numbers would be smaller because of the less attempts due to inability to shoot a high% of 3's.

Are you a Rocket fan or just a Rocket fan posed to read up on Yao so you can defend Dwight Howard?

Apparently if you looked at the roster in the last 6 years, you would realize our best Roster was last year (even than its a far cry from Magic Talent)

Yes lets not account for facts on why Player A may never had success. Hence why I never blamed T-mac for his failures because of the cards he been handed too.

    Rashard
    Nelson
    Hedo
    Pietrus (outstanding Rookie Lee)
Gortat (decent backup C who can start for other teams)

It would be a crying shame if they couldn't make out of the 1st round......prior to this Dwight made it the 2nd round once....ughhh....in the east........................................................

One last thing. This isn't about Yao vs DH, because we know who wins Head to Head matchup and we know DH is overall #1 on the Center list, due to age, healthy and defensive ability.

This is about Dwight being overrated. I could care less if he is better than Yao.

If you disagree with Dwight being overrated, i would like to know why....

    head to head matchup?
oh thought you might want to know, charlotte bobcat swept the lakers in their regular season head to head matchup last year

oh and to comment on dwight averaging 14boards and 3blocks for only 1 year,
lets see, can yao ming even last half a year without surgery?
but whatever, enough of yao he's not coming back this year

as for dwight, he probably is not be as good as those centers in the 90s, but he sure dominates the paint today
you build your team around a 23yr old, who last year was
    1st team all nba
    defensive player of the year
lead his team to the finals

    i don't know
are you talking about his freethrow shooting is overrated?

how could you forget about the Laker's Finals MVP Rafer Alston? he single handedly destroyed the Magic offense.

One can argue if it wasn't for Rafer, Magics may have not had a better record and advanced in the playoffs. (When Nelson was out)

I mean come on they were desperate for a PG....

If anything i think it was a mistake to bring back Nelson after he missed the 2nd half the season.

    i don't undertand the comparision
its like mario elie vs michael jordan
yao can't even play half a year without needing a new pin for his foot
why can't we just be realistic and let be a good center instead of a great one

Does anyone else question the intelligence of a workout regimen that includes throwing a large weighted ball over a broken leg/foot?

    1. this is a rockets fan forum
    2. Yao's greatness is undoubted if compared to the rest of the centers playing during the same time period; a relatively week period for the center position due to talent and rules changes in the NBA. We will all get to witness a season without him, which will perhaps allow us all to see how great and important he has been for our team.
    3. If one is comparing Yao to the all time greats, he has a place there, where exactly that place is, is yet to be determined.

marketability wise, definietly an all time great. probably top 3, easy.
skills wise no, not even close. this is a rocket fan forum but the truth is he's in the class of rik smits or bryant "big country" reeves (more like reeves due to injury), and does not have a place in the upper echelon
i think any knowledgeable fan of the rockets should be able to see that, unless your lying to yourself...

okay any respect i had just left....I mean seriously Rik Smits and Bryant Reeves, I can't ever recalling them get 1/4th of the double teams Yao gets, nor have they ever reached 20-10

I love the flying Dutchman but thats like saying Dwight Howard is as good as Ben Wallace with more shot attempts and better FT%
