Why didn't you give the number of bricks he made? Last possession ... now, that's the most idiotic thing that I have ever heard. Was that last possession why stupid Sura refused to pass to Yao earlier?

Sura is great in some aspects. But he does have problmes with his passing as a pg, not only in the term of passing to yao.

From what time on Sura has the privilige to be not criticized? Otherwise, you are labled as a YOF:confused:

yeah, thats why:rolleyes: you sure do know your basketball...

I was referring to a very specific play in the fourth quarter.

Yao was not in position, so Sura (the playmaker) made a play happen
through *gasp* himself and another teammate...

    do you promise?

Give the teammates equal chance on the court, pass the ball to the man who has the ability to score when he is open, or just look at your center at times to see if he is in position for some easy basket. Is this too much to ask for a ball handler in a 5 men team game?
I have to admit Sura is a good player other than not even give a sigle look at Yao when he is in the game. I wish there aren't any persional issues in Sura, casue he really should not bring those BS into the game.

    Play the game!!!!!

Umm, remind me why this team needs a true point guard again? Don't we have this guy called T-Mac, who plays the game like the he is the secret love child of Scotty Pippen and Larry Bird? Yeah, we need to take the ball out of that guy's hands, the two-time scoring champ guy who's leading our team in assists.

Bob Sura is awesome. He hustles, he makes plays, and he's this team's primary and most vocal leader. Yao will get the ball when he earns it. Until then, as long as we're winning, who really gives a dang?

It's not all SURA's fault!!!!. Yao got problem also. If he does care about W first. He should DEMAND the ball from sura. sometime I think he put his NICE in the very first place.

    Dude,that's assinine.
Sura DOESN'T have personal issues w/Yao.
Some of you have this singular obsession with Yao that skews your view of what is really happening on this team. It's OK to love the big guy.I understand, but look at the big picture.

There is nothing wrong with Sura, he is playing the same way he has been playing since he was in the league.

Sura was plugged into PG because we didn't have anyone. Is he the solution as a PG for the future of the Rockets? Hell, no! Even Sura himself will tell you this. So before we can get someone really fits into our future plan, we’ll just have to do it with Sura as our PG.

The biggest complaining on this board is that Sura doesn’t pass enough to Yao. This is true, but he doesn’t pass enough to anyone else. The guy was a SG for his life, has that “ball hog” mentality where his first instinct is always trying to score himself. Obviously, that’s a huge negative for a PG, but he brings other positive aspects to the game, which offset his deficiencies. Since the Rockets are winning, coaches & fans are willing to over look that part of his game for now. Plus, who else is out there we can get for PG at a reasonable price?

Some may say that since Yao is our future, why don’t we focus our attention on developing him by going to him more, even at the cost of losing games now. This is easy said than done. NBA is a business after all, owners need to make money, and you can only make money when you win. Coaches are judged by how they are doing NOW, not develop foundation for the future. We’ll see a different reaction from the owner & fans when we get knocked out from the 1st of playoff, and then we’ll see the roster shuffling this summer.

And I could argue that we'd be 14-12 if Sura forced the ball to Yao when he was tired, fronted by his defenders, or completely taken out of the game because of early fouls.

You just can't say we'd manufacture wins just because you "give it to Yao." Watch the games. Yao at times has been nullified by his defender. Sometimes his own fault (early fouls) sometimes due to great defense. Those games were lost because Yao happened to have a bad game (nothing to do with Sura not passing the ball to him) or because our role players weren't hitting their outside shots.

Sura, during the games we've won, has been assertive. Why mess with success? You want Sura to pass to Yao, just because? I just haven't seen the evidence that those games we lost would have mattered whether we gave the ball to Yao or not. Yao was taken out of those games and our outside shooters weren't hitting. Yao was not effective or even on the floor long enough to even give him the ball.

And some of those games we lost everybody was shooting bricks (even TMac!).

Could you please define "a lot of shots?"

    Lets see...

....Sura 8.1 shots per game (Less attempts than David Wesley)
    ....Yao 12.3 shots per game.

Sura, drives to the basket because we need him to! That's called contributing as a team member of the Rockets. If Sura was to keep dribbling, shooting air-balls, and turning it over all the time. JVG would have made an adjustment to the game plan and the ball would have gone to Yao more. But last night game Sura was contributing; it was working, Sura was making a difference and helping the team.

You make adjustments as the game goes along. You don't just yell out "Give the ball to Yao" just because you want Yao to get more points (selfish on your part). Why? Check the score from last nights game. We WON! The game plan worked.

By the way, getting Nash would be great. But let me know how we are supposed to get a player of that caliber?

News Flash: Bobby Sura is a driving, athletic, 6'5" shooting guard that just happens to be playing the PG position for the Rox. And he's going a damn good job! If we could get a better PG that could hit the 3 and dish out 7-8 assist a game (or more). By all means. Sign him up!

I just wanted to point out that Sura is playing out of position, but still playing pretty good considering.

in jan., sura shots 4.5-10.1 when ming does 6.2-11.1. i should say we need a better game plan.
btw, TMac is 10.2-22.9, HOward 4.5-9.7, Wesley 3.4-9.3.
giving ming more touches will help to build a more balanced team.

Check out the both December and January too. November 27 and 30 was Sura's first games. Did you notice how the Rockets play improved the first few games that Sura was inserted into the starting lineup?

    Record:
    8-4 in January
    9-5 in December
6-10 in November (Sura started November 27th and 30th; only 4 attemps per game; two losses)

Yao's attemps per game are not the fault of Sura or any other guard. Yao gets the number of touches that are availible each game. That averages around 12.3. He can't get 14 or 15, or 16 touches per game. He's not physically capable yet. Forcing it would just cause turnovers and tire Yao out early.

If Yao shows more intensity and consistency, then he'll get rewarded. The last few games he's scored 20+/10 or so....that's a nice pace over 4 quarters. Try and give him the ball more than he can handle would just tired Yao out faster, cause fouls, and put him on the bench.

Yao is coming a long fine. No rush. Pssstt....by the way. We won last night. I'd say that game plan is fine. It wins games. Changing the game plan just to get Yao more shots is not caring about the Rockets wins. But more about Yao.

Yao's touches will increase as his endurance and stamina increases. The responsibility is on Yao. And maybe someday he'll be able to handle 15-16 attemps per game with 36 minutes (just like Amare).

I will dump Sura for a PG like Hinrich or Tinsley. However, since taht scenario is impossible and Sura is making contributions to the team at a out of position 1, I will stick with him. Maybe JVG can teach him finding the man with the hot hand in the future. Case closed.

I am not sure that I agree on that. I think that Yao clearly can handle 15-16 shots right now. Why not run some high post P&R between shooters (TMac, Barry, Wesley) to free Yao for some open 15 footer since it's clear that he has got his shooting touch back? That shot is unguardable and is a higher percentage shot than TMac draining a desperate 3 anyway.

Tinsley and Heinrich are not available. Just like Steve Nash, Tiny Archibald, Bob Cousy, John Stockton and Magic Johnson are not available. Pure point guards are at a premium just like people posting on a basketball message board who are not blithering idiots- they are hard to find and precious to keep. Bob Sura is one of the main reasons the Rockets are winning. If Yao Ming brought the same fire and intensity to the game that Sura does he would get better position and demand the damn ball. I agree with you the people who would like better point guard play, just like I want a center who is a dominant rebounder and doesn't let the ball get slapped out of his hands five times a game. This is not a fantasy league- you have to go to war with what you have. The Rockets are doing fine, in case your obsessions kept you from noticing that they won last night.

Yao will get more of those type shots which I believe has helped his stamina. But his shot attempts will increase significantly only with more minutes. Lets say, 33-34 minutes per game. Then, he'll get around 13-14 shots per game. That's more realistic for Yao. Yao's not able to receive the ball and play 36 minutes like Duncan. That's just not possible. Not over the whole year.

Duncan and Amare are able to play heavy minutes (36). Both get 16+ shots per game.

Note: The last two games Yao has played 36 minutes and gotten 14 shots per game. Lets see how long that lasts.

A big part of the game is managing players minutes. That way you don't tire them out before the 4th quarter. Also, too many minutes over a long period of time can cause fatigue and injury. Lets look long term. Not instant statisifcation.

Yao is progressing at a nice pace. Upping his minutes too fast for too long might be a bad idea. Lets see how he does the next 4 or 5 games. Then we'll see if he can get 13-13.5 shots per game consistently with a slight increase in minutes.

    Yes, totally agree.
I'm a YOF, so what. After yao came to Rockets I became a Houston Rockets fan too.
Who can tell me is YOF is guilty or not welcome? I just don't understand. Yao bring so many topic here:) right. We can argue each other. Just have fun and take easy.
