@Salvy was so upset he told his undocumented laborers they’re now responsible for their own gas.

AZ is an example of what happens when the GOP runs out Trumpian candidates - and their crazy Gov candidate still almost won. Any sane GOPer would have won AZ Gov, PA Senate, GA Senate, etc.

This was a good Dem midterm simply because the GOP has gone batshit crazy. If they run a "normal" candidate, they'd do really well right now. But 2024 is a long way away - a lot can change with the economy, what Trump does with his party, etc.

Even though I just wrote that Biden is one of the most successful presidents in recent history it’s hard to tell if the Democrat electoral success in GA, AZ, etc.. are due to Biden.

Given how many votes Walker and Lake got it does seem like the Republicans should’ve won if those candidates were just a little more mainstream. That a candidate who went on rambles about vampires, acknowledged domestic violence and own son said he was a terrible parent still got about 47% of the vote showed that many were willing to oppose the Democrats. Also if the Biden Presidency was the unmitigated disaster that Republicans say it is likely should’ve pushed Walker over the top.

my own feeling is that this more about Walker losing than Biden and Warnock winning. The Biden presidency being able to deliver on things like infrastructure I think helped.

To use a World Cup analogy the Republicans kicked an own goal but the democrats were still able to play well enough to keep the Republicans from scoring and won 1-0.

I think at the end of the day, Biden's strongest quality is he's neither crazy nor threatening (ie, old white dude, not far left). He inspires no one but he's very acceptable to a lot of people.

He's the perfect candidate to run against Trump; he's the worst candidate to run against any normal GOPer.

One of the interesting things about this midterm was that black turnout was down compared to recent elections. Dems won over white voters (thus likely moderates or conservatives) but didn't really bring out their base. That seems to me a result of crazy candidates on the other side, but obviously it's hard to really know.

Can't really disagree with any of this but I think you have to give the Democrats a lot of credit for having good candidates and to the voters who are tired of fringe type candidates.

You also have to ask is that the end for these type of candidates will they learn the hard lessons or triple down?

Do people not realize that youth turnout was the 2nd highest EVER for a midterm elections? You can argue all you want that GOP has gone crazy (obviously they have) but the truth of the matter is folks between 18-35 showed up in high numbers. They also are the ONLY demo that swung more to the democratic side since the general elections.

Biden forgiving 20k in student loans and pausing the repayment helped bring them out on droves. At ASU mark kelly won the vote by NINETY FOUR PERCENT!!! At Penn state fetterman won by 96%!!! Republicans sueing the administration to pause student loan forgiveness pissed off alot of people and I don't blame them.

Also don't forget a top 3 priority for youth voters is climate change and biden delivered on the largest climate package in global history. Facts are facts.

People simply don't hate Biden the same way folks hated Obama and Clinton. I worked in DC and the organic backlash against having the first African American president was real. People genuinely thought Obama was trying to reshape American landscape and push government Healthcare and socialism. Biden passed more than 4 trillion in spending and there was NO backlash to any of it.

When you're "boring" you can get away with alot of stuff. If Obama tried to pass a trillion dollar climate bill like biden had the average voter would've had his head on a spike.

Why is he the worse candidate to run against a normal GOPer and what exactly is a normal GOPer these days?

I really think people are still underestimating Bidens support, and being acceptable to a lot of people will still go along way in 2024.

The really crazy part is for some reason his actual governing accomplishments don't matter, should that not be what is actually being discussed?

That goes to my analogy that the Democrats played well enough. By any objective standard Walker is a terrible candidate yet still forced a runoff and was working striking distance of winning. Kari Lake insulted a significant section of the Az GOP base yet still came close to winning. That shows that there still was some weakness in the Democrats.

The last thing democrats need a competitive primary in 2024. Whether you like kamala or not ( I don't think she wins a general) she has overwhelming support of the black community. She polls 80-90% with them consistently. If gretch or Shapiro or someone wanted to knock her off they would have to attack her personally. Kamala will turn that around and play the race card and it'll turn off ALOT of normie voters that are in the democrat coalition right now. The coalition has stuck together because they can successfully point to how crazy the Republicans are. Once the democrats look as crazy with their in party fighting those same indies will jump ship. It'll be a disaster.

Biden needs to focus on bringing down inflation (which fed predicts will hit 3% in 2024) and keep the manufacturing boom going. As long as the economy is okay in 2024 dems will win easily.

I don't think you're weighing the economy as you should. TWENTY FOUR percent of people said the economy was in good shape yet dems won which is crazy as hell. I don't think people are grasping at how successful dems were able to paint the democracy at risk argument. The day before elections happened bidens closing message was democracy.

The fact that dems were able to convince folks that democracy was more important than the economy shows how durable and strong the coalition is that they've built. Look all around the world. Not a single center left party did what dems had done. Extremists won in sweeden, Italy, Israel, etc. Right wing fascists ran on the economy globally and won big except here in America.

I don't think Kamal has that kind of strong support, it sure did not show up in the last primary.

Her playing the race card blew up in her face the last time she tried.

I think her ship has sailed, she has done nothing to raise her profile, was she even on the campaign trail?

    Did any candidates use her?

I was looking for Biden to get the Nom be he is looking really rickety these days.

No that shows that Republicans will ignore a lot it has nothing to do with a Democratic weakness.

Yeah walker is terrible, but he is also a huge Star in that state which went a long way, he is a God down there.
