Based on our current roster, SF is not a good use of a roster spot. I don't think scoring is going to be the problem. At this stage, we have enough offense with Tmac, Yao, James, and Bonzi, nevermind the outside shooting and other contributions of Battier and Hayes. Nevermind the possible contributions of a Scola. We need fluidity, playmaking and defense. SF would bring a motion offense to a grinding halt. If you take money out of the equation, as much as it pains me to say it, Alston is a better fit here than SF. The only way we should bring him in is as an additional asset, in case of injury to our scorers. But it should be with the understanding that he may or may not get playing time. But no way he would or should accept that.
Hoped I would never have to say this again. My moniker says it all. This guy has been a prima donna, head case since he started college. (Three years, Three different schools.) Throw in the Vancouver tantrum and how he get's cut by a team that is desperate for a veteran PG like Portland. All this speaks volumes to the hype that this guy has never lived up to and yet his resiliance is unbelievable. You would think that after Zeke gave up on the guy that the rest of the league would get it. Francis is a never was. Give it up.
Francis DID begin his NBA Career with the Pout Seen Round the World when he was drafted by the Grizz.
I'm telling you if you watched francis in his second season in orlando or in ny its totally off base to say he dribbles too much.
The only thing I agreed with you is that SF would be an additional asset. Not sure if you recall from last season or the season before. The rockets has been lacking and going back and forth with defense and offense. last season we lack offense, no one was able to put up any points. Those scorers that you mentioned, Alston, Wells, Battier, Hayes...they didn't do jack or not enough. We don't have enough fire power. Most importantly we don't have a consistent 3rd scorer. James can help but can he be enough for us to be the 3rd scorer? Wells, anyone see him play yet? don't let the donut boy fool u...etc. Those that u mentioned has the protential but not proven. Not to mention tmac's back who would be able to step up and provide those skills set that Tmac has? SF is a low risk proven scorer that can be our consistent 3rd stinger. James/SF/Tmac/Hayes/Yao
Thats the only way I see SF here, as insurance. I like our line-up right now, but we don't know which Bonzi will show up.
LOL if I bring Francis in, I just make him compete for guard minutes like everyone else. If the Rockets function better with him starting I start him. If the team works better coming off the bench, so be it. If we need him in reserve role, that's what I would do too. I have a hunch that Francis would beat down all the other guards in a head to head competition.
Exactly. I don't understand how people can blame JVG for his offense and not notice how Rudy T played a huge part in the isolation/freelance offense. Most of the time our offense was to let either Francis, Cat or even Moochie go one-on-one, penetrate and then either dish it off or try to score. Looking at our rosters back then, that was probably the best thing to do so I won't hold it against Rudy. It was when JVG came in and brought some structure to the game which resulted in our first playoff appearance in five years.
even if we agree that francis doesnt dribble too much, that doesnt cover up his bad decisions and spotty ball handling.
I know I am getting in a little late on this thread (that's what happens when you don't have Internet at home), but I have resigned myself a long time ago that there are always going to be Francis homers on this BBS. It is pretty obvious that he wants to play with the Clippers and his lifelong buddy Mobley and now with the drafting of Aaron Brooks (a player that Adelman really likes), there is really no need for him. I know, I know - I at one time was in favor of bringing him back but that was before we got Mike James and drafted Brooks. And besides, I just don't see Stevie Franchise fitting well in an Adelman type offense. So, with that being said, it would be great to see the interest in Francis to die down but that probably won't happen. The first time he runs into trouble with the Clippers, there will probably be some numbnuts posting a "We Should Trade for Steve Francis" thread in this forum.
"Structure" had little to do with it. Other teams falling off and the ascendance of Yao are the reasons they made the playoffs. Either style would have worked.
Francis cant even operate a pick and roll. what makes you think he could operate under an Adelman high motion offense? Adelman would probably resign if we signed Francis.
I doubt Morey would sign Francis if Adelman doesn't want him. That's why I've said before that it really depends on what Adelman thinks. Talent (based on stats) for an economical price is what Morey focuses on and Francis is a perfect catch if you're just looking at those things. Whether we get Francis is ultimately up to 1) Adelman (and whether he thinks he can handle Bonzi, James and Francis) and 2) Francis (whether he wants to play on a championship contending team or his buddies Mobley and Cassell).
Dude is a bonehead who pounds the ball way too much. Never saw him get much beyond one-on-one b-ball and the alley oop to Kelvin Cato. Ah, he had a few good penetration-passes. But the Stevie era was one-on-one basketball and Yao was a third option behind Dumber: Mobley. I like Stevie as a person, but as a player, no smarts.
Opinion on this forum firmly divided. In short, the arbiter, namely one Daryl Morey, will determine which side is the winner... the sign Francis side, or the no Francis side.
Miami is like the oldest team in the NBA. I seriously doubt they have enough gas in the tank to make a serious run.
