Why can't we use him as our second unit SG or combo guard? From what I remember, Jerry Stackhouse use to jack up shots after dribbling the ball in Philly and look at how important he is to Dallas' second unit. I can imagine something like that for Houston and SF. He is not the ideal PG for us, but he can become an important weapon off the bench for us. We can't play our starters to death.

Well said. These guys who get bought out are nothing but team cancers and have never made a difference for the Rockets or any other team.

First off, your numbers arent adjusted based on minutes played.

Per 40 min played for last season:

    Francis
    16.1 ppg
    5.1 rpg
    5.5 apg
    1.3 spg
    3.2 TO

    Alston
    14.3 ppg
    3.7 rpg
    5.8 apg
    1.7 spg
    2.2 TO

Secondly, in the Rockets offense, FG% and 3pt% is very critical based on the fact that TMac and Yao allow the rest of the teammates to have wide open looks...and Francis beats him with no question. Alston's a career 38% shooter which is at a higher rate than he shot last year. Scary.

Ball movement and a flowing offense, that has been Rick Adelman's philosophy. Steve Francis doesn't fit anywhere in that equation. Moving without the ball, spot up shooting, etc. That has never been his game and it never will be.

Do you have the same doubt when Spurs pretty much gave us Scola for free?

that cost the spurs absolutely $0. so the only thing they gave up was potential.

Allow their division rival to fill the weakest spot on their roster?

Clearly, somebody isn't taking understanding the subtle approach due to a lack of memory. Let me spell it out for you.

Francis cannot play in a motion offense. Adelman's offense requires players to be smart, have crisp passing, and to never stop the ball. Francis has none of those three things. If he could spot up shoot, I would have less problems with him coming back, but he CANT even even do that. He can only shoot off the dribble. And have you seen him run a fast break? This guy makes Luther look like Jason Kidd.

so your're trying to compare a $6 mil buyout with a $30 mil buyout? it's close. but nah, i'm not buying it. not the same thing.

    Wrong again.

Dikembe Mutombo's buyout was approximately $29 million.

I'm pretty sure they were thinking they could still school us with Duncan at the 4. If they really think that giving Scola would make us a threat to take their throne away then I'm sure this trade wouldn't have gone through.

I sure hope they're wrong though.

People comparing Steve Francis to Jerry Stackhouse? Give me a BREAK! these guys are two very different players. Stackhouse can spot up shoot from the 3, much like Battier, and he has a quick first step that lets him penetrate to the basket. He's also smart enough to realize when he has nothing and will pass it off. Francis can't spot up shoot, especially from 3, and he can only penetrate by crossing someone over, which usually takes at least 6 dribbles. And on top of that he's not smart enough to realize he has nothing because he'll usually try to finish his shot no matter how many guys are on him. Heart and passion? more like naiveness and stupidity.

oops. got the chronology wrong. ok, deke is still productive. but he is not disruptive. as i have said before, francis made the games unbearable to watch. i cannot support francis.

    Hottodie,

flash over substance is the best i can come up with
