As far as all of our cats' names, not one of them has any significance other than that was the name that popped into my head at the time.

you can still list their names, and why it popped into your head. or maybe you can't remember all 17 to post here. ;) Do you ever forget, or get them mixed up? It's OK, I forget my 23 nieces and nephews sometimes.

Maybe you could get Jeff and do it separately in this thread as a test for each other, like the Newlywed game.

Name of cat in order of when you got all 17. Can Jeff and Mrs. JB agree?

Catherine. We had been feeding an abandoned cat for two years and finally decided to take her with us and make her a house cat when we left Houston. Of course, she needed a name, and we're not terribly imaginative... so we settled on Catherine because the first three letters were "Cat", which is how we used to refer to her.

Right now, she's sleeping in the middle of the floor, within sight of both her "people". It wasn't hard for her to adjust to being a house cat...

"I'm an American honey, our names don't mean ****."

Of all the animals I've had only these have any significance behind their names.

Dog 1- miniature pincer, named "Perkins" after some county singer(?) by my mother.

Cat 1- named "Tiger" for the orange and black stripes on its left side.

Cat 2- stray named "Scar" for it's bad-ass look and after the Lion King Character

Dog 3- named "Carnage" after the supervillain(okay, so I was a huge Spider-Man fan when I was 11). The name has evolved into "Carnie" for the dog's feminine tendencies.

My father is Cajun. When I was a kid we had a beagle called Lagniappe (as in, he was the family's lagniappe). Took a lot of explaining in New Zealand...

When we got our old dog, each member of the family put a name in a hat:

My dad put in 'Lucille'.
My grandmother came up with 'Muffin'.
My sister wanted to name the dog 'Scooby-Doo'.
I wrote down 'Princess'. (yeeeech...)
I don't remember what my mother put in.

Anyway, Lucille won.

My mom also has two cats, named Belle and Pip.
