I know they say it wont hamper performance, but I hope they include the ability to turn off the on the fly recording and sharing aspects of this since I find it entirely unlikely that I would ever use that. There isnt anyone online who I would want to share my gameplay with and I find it unlikely that having 15 minutes of gameplay recording going on at the same time as the game wont affect performance.
They might have some specialized hardware that helps with compressing/encoding video, though I'm guessing even in that case, there would be some kind of performance hit (though probably pretty minor, and can use the "reserved" pool of CPU/RAM to leave game performance alone). So maybe turning it off actually wouldn't have a noticeable difference in performance. Of course, Sony could have spent those resources in improving game performance (e.g., higher clocked GPU, 1-2 more CUs, more/faster RAM, less restrictive OS, etc.) Could also just be BS, though other sites have mentioned "share" functionality, so I think there is some truth to it (maybe just not quite as Edge described it).
I freaking love the idea of video sharing. I've done written a few FAQs over the years and I participate onsome gaming boards, and I would love to be able to upload clips that show how to collect items or get past tricky parts. I know I could have rigged up my home network to do this already, but having it work natively with the PS4 is a sweet feature. I'm curious if they'll allow voice overs via headset on top of the recorded video.

Wouldn't really worry about that too much. Every PlayStation Meeting has involved a hardware reveal. The timing (held in NY, but at an hour to also get attention in Japan and Europe) and the PR by Sony definitely imply something big, and new hardware is pretty much the only thing that qualifies. Could be a big push with Gaikai, but doubt they'd do it like this (plus wouldn't be ready for this kind of attention by itself, though maybe it will be part of the PS4 reveal). Plus all the "insiders" confirming it is PS4. If it wasn't PS4, Sony will make a lot of new enemies.
It'll be funny if Sony trolled everyone and announced a new Vita bundle in conjunction with a price drop.
