Someone pointed out that Uncharted 2 came out last year. My mistake. I only got around to playing it this year. Red Dead certainly takes the cake then.
top 3 games for me this year: 1. battlefield bad company 2 2. gran turismo 5 3. red dead redemption/nba 2k11 (tie)
Red Dead Redemption (easily) As for Angry Birds, haven't messed with it b/c all of the comments in the market claim that this game went downhill with all of the new ads. Are they really so bad that they interfere with the game?
The only games I really got into were God of War 3, Reach and Red Dead. GOW 3 is absolutely amazing. The look and scope of the levels is mind boggling. You spend a lovel running up the body of the giant titan Geia and the epic nature of the Greek Gods saga is really really fun if you like that stuff. Reach I feel was the all around best game. They introduced a lot of new gameplay elements and I can't possibly go back to the classic gametypes that don't feature armor enchantments. The things that people are doing in forge is unlike anything ever done in video games. No game gives users that much creative freedom. But who cares if it came out last year. The majority of the people still played it this year. What if a game came out on the 31st of December?? It would never make the top 2010 list if no one had a chance to play it.
I understand what you're saying, but it was released October of last year. I could see the argument if it was released December. You have to have a cut off SOMEWHERE right? The whole point is best games of 2010.
this is a thread about 2010 games, and Uncharted 2 is NOT one. It won game of the year in 2009, plenty of people had time to play it
Already pointed out, but the line has to be drawn somewhere. I'm not going to list Planescape Torment and The Longest Journey in my 2010 lists just because I finally played them this year. And as rhino17 pointed out, plenty of people played U2 in 2009 (it either won GOTY or was at least in the top 3...I lost track, but you can see the votes in one of those links). That said, definitely feel free to list it as the best game you played this year (or whatever), regardless of release date. The restrictions only apply to make things easier for the voting. Still playing a few games (trying to finish Dante's Inferno and Darksiders soon...but probably won't), and debating between Mass Effect 2 and GoW3. But think I'll probably go with Heavy Rain for my overall GOTY as well.
Only 2 people have said Reach?? wtf? Are the rest of you a bunch of hipsters, nothing wrong with the obvious choice people.
I thought the missions kept me interested throughout...which was the complete opposite of a game like GTA 4. And not sure how its unoriginal, given the fact that, other than being a sandbox game, the whole setting, time period, and missions of the game were far different than any other game in recent years. That game also offered so much outside of the main missions.
okay I get everyones point. Well this year I would narrow my list to Red Dead, Mass Effect 2, Heavy Rain, maybe Halo Reach and God of War 3
I feel like nothing really deserves GOTY this year. Last year Uncharted 2 and Demon's Souls were both deserving. If anything, this seemed to be the year of the downloadable game. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Super Meat Boy, Limbo, Pacman DX, Scott Pilgrim... whole lot of good stuff there. If I had to rank a few of them: 1. Bad Company 2 2. Heavy Rain 3. StarCraft 2 (don't like RTS personally, but I'm still duly impressed) 4. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light 5. Scott Pilgrim 6. Super Meat Boy Red Dead: Sooooooooo overrated. ...BTW, what's with people picking Uncharted 2 in this thread? That was October 2009.
1. Bad Company 2 2. Red Dead Redemption 3. NBA 2K11 4. Uncharted 2 5. Angry Birds ...... ...... ...... 95. Alan Wake 96. COD Black OPs
