these are games i bought/played this year nonstop and i dont have an order assassins creed (been addicted to this for the past 2 weeks) halo 3 ncaa 07 football guitar hero 2/3
Thank Mr. Sony fanboy! If & when the PS3 gets enough games worth a crap that are NOT already on my Wii or 360, then I'll pick one up. Until then it is pointless. And that still doesn't change the fact that not one original PS3 game is even in the running for GOY.
1. Mass Effect 2. Halo 3 3. Assassin's Creed 4. Stuntman Ignition 5. Motorstorm 6. Beautiful Katamari
I finally started playing bioshock. The game is amazing. It's super fun, and the art direction is absolutely brilliant. What a great atmosphere they've created. I'm still very much in the beginning of the game so I it wouldn't be fair to give it a full review yet. slight spoiler alert Spoiler The scene where you head into the mad surgeon's area and he's written in blood in the floor, "above all do no harm" is an hilarious detail.
Why don't you give us your reasons as to why each of these PS3 games aren't worth a crap. You obviously know all about them having said that not one of them is worth a crap. Make sure you cover, Resistance: Fall of Man, Ratchet and Clank, Motorstorm, UT3, Warhawk, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Super StarDust, Time Crisis 4
I like the PS3 quite a bit, but am I the only one who HATED the new Ratchet and Clank? I thought it was boring mindless gaming that offered nothing except some pretty visuals.
I can't say anything about the previous games. I didn't think I would ever play this but the demo came out and I really really liked it. I enjoyed the game a lot and still think it's the best game out for the system. It was funny and the story was really developed and unpredictable. I actually thought it was a much better shooter than uncharted and a better platformer to boot. The weapons were varying and fun enough to make me want to use them to level them up as oppose to feeling forced. I don't think you could just stay in one place and shoot nor just hit everything with your ratchet. I really liked it but to each his own. How was it different from the previous games?
Probably. I pretty much share Brando2101's opinion about the game, and I haven't really seen too many people that were disappointed with the game. Even David Jaffe loved it IIRC, so it must be good. Back on-topic, Uncharted ranks in at #5 on my list after playing it (with MLB 07 and BioShock moving down a spot). With that done, I'm pretty sure my list is done.
So, question... what's the cutoff date exactly for games this year? Because I've been looking at GameSpot's nominations for game awards, and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune didn't even get a NOMINATION for anything. Not even voice acting, and to me Uncharted has the best voice acting I've ever seen/heard in a game. It was released November 16th... is that too late? Anyway, I haven't had that much fun with a game in a long time. It's like the lovechild of Gears of War and Tomb Raider. 1. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (if applicable) 2. NBA 2K8 5. Skate 6. Tony Hawk's Proving Ground Of course, I haven't played Bioshock, Mass Effect, Super Mario Galaxy, COD4, or Orange Box, so take it for what it's worth...
I think it was eligible. While I think the game is slightly overrated, I did really enjoy it and would agree that the voice acting was great. I think it's tough because it exists in a virtually non existent genre (Adventure/Platformer/Shooter). I'm not sure 1st person shooters have ever been as popular among console gamers as they are today so that makes it a bit hard for a game that can only call comparisons to a 7 year old Tomb Raider series to get a lot of attention. You would think it would get a nod in the Best Adventure category but it couldn't beat out Destination: Treasure Island apparently. Game spot didn't even have the game as the best PS3 game. I thought it was really weak that Oblivion was included since it originally came out a year and a half ago on the PC and 360. As far as the other nominees. I've seen a lot of cinematics for Heavenly Sword and I can't imagine how that got a nomination over Uncharted. I just started Half Life 2 and I don't think the voice acting is anything great either. I can't speak about Bioshock or World of Conflict but i've heard Mass Effect is really good in that regard. I hate that I can't play it. I loved the KOTOR games and would love to give a go to ME. I would do a list but I don't think it would be fair since I have not played through Mass effect, bioshock or COD 4. I'm not really enjoying COD 4 or Halflife but I did like portal. I think Warhawk is the most underrated game of the year.
Resistance was a decent FPS, beyond that I found the rest to be nothing special. Just my opinion. Now, tell me why any of them is a candidate for GOY.
Yeah, you'd think it would be eligible... I realize it's not on the level of a Super Mario Galaxy or Crysis or whatever else, but to me it's just plain stupid that it doesn't warrant a mention in the best of PS3 or Adventure games, not to mention the graphics were really impressive (how about those water effects, and watching Nate's clothes dry in real time?). And of course, as I said, Uncharted not getting a mention for voice acting is CRIMINAL. Seriously. That's like the LOTR movies getting no play for "best movie starring hobbits." Just bizarre. That's why I really wonder if somehow the cutoff date was November 15th or some such...
In order to be eligible, the game had to be heavily advertised on the site, earning Gamespot a lot of money. I don't recall seeing any Uncharted ads at Gamespot, so it wasn't eligible. However, it did have some at IGN IIRC, where it won some awards. I preferred the Heavenly Sword cinematics over Uncharted, but you can't go wrong with either. They both have by far the best cinematics I've seen in a game (haven't played/seen enough of Mass Effect, but that could possibly be added as well). It is a bit disappointing to go from one of those games to Assassin's Creed, BioShock, HL2, or something like that. The VA in BioShock was really good though. I wouldn't really have a problem with it winning an award in that category, although I'd prefer to give it to one of the 3 previous games since nearly all the BioShock voice acting is through radio transmissions (IOW, no actual "performances"). I doubt anyone here could really put together a "fair" list. I played considerably more games this year than I normally do, mostly all GOTY candidates (including all the games in my list, Super Mario Galaxy, GH3, COD4, Warhawk, etc.). If I wanted to be fair, I'd still have to play probably another 20 games or so (Crysis, The Witcher, Persona 3, Supreme Commander, Fire Emblem, Super Paper Mario, Silent Hill Origins, Rogue Galaxy, Odin Sphere, Halo 3, Mass Effect, World In Conflict, UT3, Jeanne D'Arc, etc.). And that's not counting any games that I thought would only be decent (like Folklore, which obviously took me by surprise). I don't even think the "professionals" do that. If you've played them all and that didn't change your personal opinion, then I doubt he could change your mind. Of course, some of those games won awards or were in the top 5/10 in votes for GOTY, so at least from that standpoint, they're worthy of being GOTY.
I was a little unclear. From what I have seen in the cinematics of HS, I thought the voice acting was better in Uncharted. In terms of just the cinematics I would agree with you that Heavenly Sword was better. The combat animations were smooth and intricate and well...just badass. It may be your opinion but I've yet to see to what you hare basing it on. You were so bold ass to say that none of those games are worth a crap. How many have you even played or better yet seen gameplay footage for? I'd like to hear what you thought about each one. If you are going to say that not a single is "worth a crap" I think it is more than fair that you should explain why. Warhawk-amazing online experience that combines 3rd person shooting with air combat and a kick ass turret system. The different aspect combine to make an awesome wartime battle system that is multidimensional and has a complex variety of weaponry that I'm not sure many games can match. There is no exclusive out on the 360 that can compete. R+C- I've talked about how awesome this title is multiple times on the board. Uncharted-Haven't seen a game like this since Tomb Raider. More than an hours worth of beautiful cinematics with what I saw as the best and most detailed animation on any console. MotorStorm- I think it is really underrated. The tracks are half a mile wide and vary so much in style within that width and they are insanely long. The vehicles all function beautifully and the overall interaction between the vehicles is amazing. The physics engine is unparalleled among racers and the game makes much use with it. A lot of different publications have GOTY awards. Gamespy has Warhawk and Uncharted in it's list of candidates and Mass Effect, Bioshock and Halo 3 on its list. I'm not sure Halo deserves to be there but I suppose it's beside the point because there are two PS3 games that are represted. Gamespot has 10 games in the running with 6 exclusives on the list: Super Mario Galaxy (wii), Crysis (PC), Halo 3, World in Conflict, God of War 2, and Forza Motorsport 2). Personally, I think it's a good list that is missing Mass Effect and R+C. IGN has R+C and Uncharted on their list of 15 candidates. I don't think any exclusive on the PS3 is GOTY but the only 360 exclusive I see as truly worth is Mass Effect. Is ME better than anything out on the PS3? Yes, but to say that an entire library sucks because the it does not have the best exclusive is dumb and if you have ever taken a statistics class, completely unwarranted. I'm sure that GOTY lists with only 5 nominees do not have a PS3 title but I don't see how anything but Mass Effect on the 360 could make it on that list either.
uh oh, who would have thought a war would have started between a PS3er and a 360er ? relax brando. he may have been a little bold, but ps3 titles have been lacking for the most part.
