Vacation, 2006: Mira Flores, Lima, Peru.

I was out with my cousin just to grab some beers at a bar down the street from our hotel the night before we were to leave for Cusco and off to Macchu Pichu and all that good stuff.

We headed back to the hotel about 11pm and on the way passed by a casino. Neither one of us had ever been in one before, so we sat down at a low-stakes blackjack table.

The next thing we knew it was 7am, we'd been drinking free Jack Daniels literally all night, and I was up $100 US (we were playing in Peruvian Sols). We'd managed to pace our boozing well enough, and Peru is cheap as hell, so all-in-all, it was awesome.

On my honeymoon, the wife and I go to the casino on our cruise ship. I've been to a few casinos, but my wife has never gambled in her life. We sit at a blackjack table (not bad odds, generally almost even), but I can't catch a break. No luck at all. I go down about $100. My wife says she's bored and she wants to try roulette. I tell her picking numbers on a roulette wheel are the absolute worst odds in the casino (37-1), so I ask her start by betting the almost even-odds stuff (red/black, even/odd, etc.). She does, and again, we just can't catch a break. We go down about another $200.

Finally, she's getting a bit grumpy, so I give her the last $100 we had to spend that night and tell her to do what she wants with it. So she just randomly chooses a number, and puts down $25...

    And hits it.

She takes the chips. Puts another $25 down on another random number...

And hits again. Back to back. In 5 minutes, she's made $1750.

The croupier looks at her and in a thick Croatian accents says, "Do you know how hard it is to do what you just did?"

My wife grins and says, "Nope!", and places another bet.

Before the night is over, picking random numbers on a roulette wheel, she banks about $7500, betting $25 (the table maximum) at a time. The worst odds in the casino, and she ends up basically paying for the honeymoon in one night. I've never seen anything like it before or since.

i hit 2 jackpots of 5k each on $2.50 slots ONLINE and I was using free money that I won from their free roll. After that I went from $50 to $1500 in War, but lost the $1,500 from tilting.

live, never really hit anything too big, just a few hundred.

sports betting, biggest night was winning $12k on a 8 team parlay. Best night I had, and than the next day was the worst, when I felt invincible and lost $5k...lol

    kids don't gamble.

Won a little over 5500€ in Monaco some years back. It was my senior year in college, and I had an internship abroad with a bank. One weekend, I went down to the Riviera with my boss and colleagues. I'd only been to a couple casinos in Vegas and Oklahoma before so I felt pretty intimidated by the posh and ultra high-roller style of Monte Carlo (people there dress very well compared to the US casinos).

However, I had amazing beginner's luck with baccarat and roulette. Unlike a previous poster's bad experience with roulette, I kept betting on red which was on a hot streak and won #13.. as soon as I got my money, I called it a night. I've rarely gambled ever since.

I've been to Vegas at least 30 times, usually to meet my dad, who is a seriously addicted gambler.

For me, I used to do horses (mostly Hollywood Park) and sports (mostly basketball and soccer) almost daily, but it was small amounts. Once I had a horrendous night at the tables in Vegas, and spent the next day at the sports book with a Racing Form and won back around $1000 from the $20 I had left. I've hit a few parleys from soccer that paid over a $1000 from small bets as well. Table games, I think $3000 up was the best night I ever had. I never played poker in a casino, and I usually lost in private games. I only won playing straight poker. I hate Hold 'Em.

Poker is dangerous, especially with quality players. I learned very quickly that I wasn't very good and haven't played any games for any serious money in over a decade.

But I never gambled what I couldn't afford to lose, and if I won big, or lost big, I'd walk away and I'd stay away a long time. I also had rules. The main one is that I NEVER bet on a game that involved a team I cared about. Rockets games were out. I never want to ruin fandom with money. It's a bad thing to be so caught up in homerism that you throw away money chasing your own passion. It's also miserable to bet against your team and watch them win. It's a nasty feeling.

A few years ago I had a losing streak in sports and won almost nothing in a month. I haven't gambled since. Before that, I was making about over $2000 a month in small daily bets. I had a good run of about 6 years and I think I should be grateful.

Now my DAD on the other hand....
I've seen him personally win or lose as much as $30,000 at a blackjack table in a night. He's hardly rich, but serious addicts are like that. It's frightening to watch. Gambling is his high. The whole time he's in Vegas he won't sleep. I've also seen him max out credit cards in a casino without a second thought.

Often he wouldn't be able to tell you if he's up or down overall at any given point in his Vegas "adventures."

He also likes high stakes slot machines, like the ones that cost $60 a pull. If I was around he'd run out of $20's and ask me for some. Once he emptied me of over $300 feeding them into a slot machine. Then he hit and won several thousand, then pocketed it and went to play blackjack with it. And lost it.

In daily life he was a penny pincher, but in a casino, he turned into a psycho. There was no regard for reason.

Often these trips would find him waiting for the plane back to Corpus, complaining about how if he only had more time he'd win that money back. You know those sad degenerates still trying to play slots while they are waiting to leave the airport to go home?

    That's my dad.

I still think gambling is fun and all, but casinos are designed to make a profit. Certain games like horse racing or poker offer an advantage if you REALLY know what you are doing, but even then you run the risk of having an awful day.

Dude, that is an insane story. Caesar's actually sold that one in Tahoe, and it's now called Montbleu.

I don't gamble myself but one of my older brothers love to, I'd go with him just to drink but once he lost somewhere around 5 K in one sitting, he'd been up 2K at some point and I tried to convince him to cash in. Considering I was in college at the time and broke, I'd have killed for a few hundred bucks.
