i remember that series well...we had just beaten magic and the lakers in the first round without home court, then in game 2 against the sonics, that was our game! we had a chance to split, played well, put up points, but the sonics set the record at that time for the most 3s in a playoff game, i believe 19..to take a 2-0 lead. That was devastating.

in 93, the 7th game was devasting because kenny missed a wide open 17 ft jumper in the corner to win the game....we lost in ot by 3....as heartbreaking as that was it might have motivated us enough to play better the next year because i don't think we would have gotten mario that offseason if we went further in the playoffs, imo

Why Stockton wasn't doubled teamed or anything to prevent a three pointer is beyond me. I knew that shot was true when he launched it. Barkley had no business staying back on the pick. How can you let stockton take a three when the Jazz have nothing to lose? They miss and they play again. The Knicks showed us this in 94 - when you up 3-2 - you go for the win, not overtime.

Why? Because a three from stockton is nearly a 45% shot - you win the game outright. But if you are down by two, and take a 50% shot (which these days is very high) then you get to play overtime for a 50-50 shot. Thus, in the end, you only have a 25% shot of winning going for the tie in that situation. So it's obvious what they are going to try to do!

Knowing this, the Rockets and Rudy -T made a colassal mistake.

Did Clyde shot too early? Yes...but at least he made the shot - so you take it. But c'mon - you pull Barkley and guard that perimeter. Worst case is the Jazz send it to overtime - why give them the chance to win????

Not trading Sampson to Blazers for Clyde the Glide and #2 Pick (Michael Jordan would have been chosen). Sweetness for many years: Hakeem, Clyde, Jordan.

Can a bring this really depressing thread back to fun....

let me use some Will type micro analysis on text to 'splain that "devastating" can be positive.

when it comes to positive devastating blows....Barkley body slamming Shaq and pummuling him in Shaq's prime...boy...howdy! Barkley is my hero of all time.

    <img src="http://www.nba.com/media/history/barkley_100_bio.jpg">

I was at that game and still have not seen the vid. umm...call to the you tubes.

Although in a Shaq highlight clip I saw they put this fight in it. Barkley came out with his face bloodied, while Shaq came out just fine... So I'm not sure if you want to bring this fight up.

Barkley had a scrape on his face after being pulled off of Shaq. O'Neal got the ball chunked off his head and then took an Arn Anderson spinebuster.

Yep. Barkley won that one, no doubt. I really didn't like Barkley until that moment. From then on, I loved the guy.

When the Rockets drafted Rodney McCray with the 3rd pick in the NBA draft and left hometown boy Clyde Drexler on the board to be drafted by the Portland Trailblazers. The Rox would have had a couple more rings if it were not for this idiotic move!

compucomp....as AntiSonic says, those vids are not the best produced of that fight. I guess I'm thinking of the Houston feed highlights.

if you don't believe us, just start a thread here asking about it.

and let me ask you a question...have you ever seen someone fight Shaq, much less in the prime of his career. Then answer this, have you ever seen Shaq on his back on the ground. 1 + 1 = Barkley took on Shaq, pick him up off his feet and drove him into the court. Barkley then got 3-4 swings at Shaq's face before people started grabbing Barkley's arms, at which point Shaq was finally able to roll barkley over.

Too bad you weren't there (or here) to remember it.

We got Barkley because the Sonics owned us during the regular season from '93 - '96. He provided another inside scorer and shored up our rebounding at a time when we were considered one of the worst offensive rebounding teams in the league.

He also help lead the Rockets to their second-best record in franchise history.

Not to say that we couldn't have figured out a way to beat the Sonics with Horry and Cassell, but he was mainly brought in for that reason. They just didn't count on the Jazz being as good as they were.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Mario Elie breaking his wrist in Denver after being pushed in the back by Jalen Rose on a breakaway dunk. He was in the midst of the best run of his career, and he was never the same shooting-wise that season after that injury. He couldn't shoot strait in the Sonics series.

I wonder how much Horry throwing the towel in Ainge's face was because Ainge threw the ball in Elie's face?

I will bet the 2 are connected.

Nope - he banked it in....gave us a 2 point lead. If we had a two-point lead with time running out - Utah would have immediately have fouled - think about it.
