Rafer controls the ball and makes it easier for yao and tmac to get the ball. He controlled the game at the end when spurs put on the full court pressure and kept turning it over. That's why he's a starter. You don't need offense from him. That's why this starting five work. Rafer to make plays and control game. Chuck to hustle and rebound. Shane for defense and hustle. Yao and Tmac for offense.
i think i'm gonna post this for every rafer thread. steve nash deron williams tony parker baron davis sam cassel jason terry devon harris allen iverson chris paul you guys remember what happened the last 2 times we made the playoffs. destroyed by jason terry and deron williams. think rafer can hold his own against any of these guys in the playoffs? more than likely he's gonna go up against one of those guys. reminds me of matt maloney 96-97 rockets when he got destroyed by stockton. at least matt maloney could shoot.
I think this board is overlooking the most obvious thing when it comes to Rafer. HE has a big contract, that we can't get rid of. So the Rockets are not going to put him on the bench making that kind of money. Also I think that if he plays better, maybe we can find a fool, I mean a team that needs a point guard down the road, that we can unload him on. Because if you put him on the bench, no one will dare trade for him.
I would LOVE rafer if he didn't shoot, AT ALL. Those are some of the ugliest bricks I've EVER seen, so loud and clanky GROSS. AND he throws up more airball LAYUPS than threes. RAFER, if you are reading this.. DON"T SHOOT THE DAMN BALL!! EVER!!!
you already got tmac and yao, 2 superstars, who do you want a pg??JKIdd?? look at every team in the league, everyone has an average player in at least one position, and that one average player would get dominated by a star who plays the same position. didnt you see yesterday's game? head and james had no idea or didnt feel like passing the ball to yao and he was stuck on 21 pts since the latter parts of the 3rd quarter....he only got points 22 and 23 cuz head shot an airball that luckily fell into Yao's hands. THen the spurs cut the lead to 7 with 2:30ish to go, Alston comes in and what do we see?? 1st possession: pass to yao down low...bucket 2nd possession: pass to yao down low....bucket 3rd possession: pass to yao down low....fouled, hits 1-2 from the line 4th possession pass to ya down low...yao doubled, ball ends up with Battier for the open 3....game over. he's more important for that reason alone. These rocket fans wanna freaking superstars at every position.
WHAT???? I seems like Rafer take these threads as a personal challange because last week I said the same thing, and showed me by playing even worse this week...So don't ever think rafer can't play any worse, because he will and can prove you wrong at any given game...lol
genious!! After 2nd game in pre-season we should have traded!..seriously great idea! lol@ when rafer makes 1 spin move and crowd say, ohhhhh but he still miss the shot
Why not? what's wrong with that? Because Yao and TMAC are great, we can afford to have scrubs starting? what kind of logic is this? How many teams have two D-league players starting?
great point. dang knickstorm, his "argument" here got you. He completely addressed your valid points and destroyed them with reason and logic!
Rafer is a good ballhandler and nothing else. We need to trade Rafer and Francis and get a point guard who can both shoot and pass!
I respect your opinion, but just don't agree with it. Rafer is a very capable PG, but he's just not a championship PG in my opinion. He doesn't have alot of holes in his game, but the holes he has are huge. In the end it will cost the rockets.
Two top tier PGs...no way. Both of those guys have flaws which posters here would pick apart to no end if they were Rockets. I seriously believe many people here would be on JKidds case after the newness wore off of the trade to bring him in simply because he can't shoot. You guys are vicious.
the reason we lost against dallas was because rafer sat out in the 4th. rafer will no longer sit out in the 4th. tmac and yao are addicted to rafer. they know he knows want they want, and where they want it, AND that he'll give it to them when they want. parker did not kill rafer, he killed james, just like terry killed james, watch the games again. most of rafers turnovers are the result of his teammates mistakes. and coaches know this. francis will never play. ever. he is a marketing ploy. rafer will get more minutes as the season progresses. some of you seriously need to consider how well we did last season with no bench, and injuries. you really need to consider that. rafer alston will be in a rockets uniform, starting, until we win a championship. feel free to quote me on that.
I do not think that rafer can improve his shooting anymore, therefore he would be the worst PG in the NBA champ team in the recent years if the rockets could win the all things.
I don't see it either, Rafer's 31 yrs old and has shot .384 FG% for his career. It just isn't going to get any better. Mike Bibby is 29 yrs old and shot .441 FG% for his career. How long do you think Adelman will keep Rafer in there over Francis. It's just a matter of time.
See, things like this people think they can get away with saying because they have a favorite, they see what they want to see and they think no one is going to check it. Parker finished with 21 points on 10-17 shooting, 5 assists and a steal in 40 minutes of play. In 13 minutes against James, Parker was 2-5 from the field for 4 points, 1 assist and 0 steals. In 27 minutes against Rafer, Parker was 8-12 from the field for 17 points, 4 assists and a steal. Might be time to block free email addresses on registration again.
