Rafer is there to make the rest of the roster look better. Rafer is to the Rockets as fat girls are to pretty girls. There is a necessary symbiotic relationship here. Without the fat girl friend pretty girls don't seem as pretty. Rafer is our fat girl, who knew I always thought it would be Bonzi.

Most people who defend Rafer sees the team first and are very well aware of his limits and his role. Most people who blast Rafer fail to see his value within his role, are blinded by their love for steve francis and most importantly, do not offer solutions to a PG problem we are all ALREADY aware of. The last thing you should have said was using bias as your arguement. Francis will not work his way into the rotation unless an unexpected event happens (trade or injury or if a Rafer hater decided to finally shoot Rafer). Houston is not trying to trade Rafer. However, searching for a trade for Rafer is by all means encouraeble. Is there an available PG out there that can do a better job then Rafer? I don't know, you explore the trade options. What I wonder is just how bad does Rafer have to be for a lot of fans to stop calling him the best point guard on the team? Does he have to shoot 0 for 100 for this to occur or what?
What seems to blow right by you is that this team won 52 games with yao out for over 30 plus and STILL got beat by a lower seed, ON our home court. Get it through your thick, skull. Teams in the playoffs will play a halfcourt set. They will destroy rafer for what he is. A non shooting, can't create his own shot, can't make wide open threes, cant play a lick of D, but hey he can stand there and pass the ball..player. His absolute lack of anykind of a jumpshot, is what kills us in the half court set. The teams sag harder off of him down on TMac and Yao. They come quicker. Why not leave him and his worst shooter in the NBA over the last 27 years sit out there all game long. Who wouldnt want Rafer taking those shots, over doubling TMac and Yao. Did you even watch the Rox over the last two years. Do you see the defensive bind teams can put on the Rox by allowing Rafer and Chuck to roam free? At least Chuck plays great D, hustles, doesnt make boneheaded mistakes (and yes rafer makes a ton of them) and can board. Rafer does nothing well. The man is shooting .318. LOOK AT THAT NUMBER!!! .318. It is the single most horrific number I have ever seen from a starter playing quality minutes. He is hitting .200 from down town. Are you guys on crack. And for all his assist prowess, he is averaging a tad over 4 and turning it over 2 times a game. He sucks! Anyone who defends him based on the "we are 5-1" truely isn't watching the game. This game would be so much easier on TMAC and Yao if it wasn't for Rafer.
Absolutely, his numbers are every bit as bad as worse than Head's or Spanoulis'. But you never see any fans having any problem in calling for their heads. It seems Rafer has some strange power he weilds over both coaches and fans.
