tmac led the league in 4th quarter pts (or top 2) in his first yr here in houston in 04-05. so no, he does have a killer instinct. there's many times when he "imposes" his will on the game. does he do it enough like kobe? no. but kobe's arguably the 2nd best SG in the game ever.

tmac does have heart. this season should put all that garbage to rest (i couldn't believe how many people said he was faking it this year).

he does have a work ethic. nobody becomes a superstar without some kind of work ethic.

the things that he's missing are freakin' healthy body and some luck. last yr, those injuries were avoidable, but he got those freakish injuries. and luck--yea, his other star goes out with a stress fracture out of nowhere and his PG pulled an injury late in the year that cost him some games.

tmac has played more than well enough to advance in the playoffs. i can name more stars that have played worse and have advanced. had we been healthy, no doubt we advance last yr.

we have a good nucleus that we just have to keep adding, particularly the bench.

How about someone else that can put the ball in the hole when the playoffs come around?

You can't tell me that any professional basketball player knows if there is enough talent on their team to REALLY contend or not. If you knew the predictable outcome of every season for ten years, how motivated would you be? Didn't Kobe want to leave the Lakers before the season began? I am sure TMac is really pumped up about Les and Morey's "sit tight" approach to next season. Yeah, that's what I want to see, more Alston, Battier, Hayes, and Head. And who wouldn't want a 50 year old back up center who can play about 5 minutes a game?

We could have had gay, but we wanted battier instead. The laker's stuck to their guns and kept Bynum.

    What McGrady is missing is...............................

THE ABILITY TO TRANSFER HIS HEART AND CLOSING INSTINCT TO HIS TEAMMATES SO THAT THEY PLAY WITH PASSION AS A TEAM.

He's got heart. We all know he's got outstanding talent, skills, and ability. He's got the closer instinct. He is fragile but that's not why he hasn't won in the playoffs. The teams that he plays on are for the most part dispassionate. Even in Orlando Darryl Armstrong was the emotional leader there, not McGrady.

When you look at Jordan, Magic, Bird, even when you look at Shaq, Kobe, even Tim Duncan, they've all got the ability to motivate their teammates to play out of their minds at key moments in the game. Have you seen Tim Duncan's eyes coming out of the huddle in the 4th quarter of a tight game? He transfers that determination to the whole team. He gets them to spike up. Anybody that seen Jordan, Magic, Bird, knows they would put up with zero bs on the court and they knew how to push the buttons on their teammates to get them to play with high, high intensity and sacrifice for the team. All those guys had/have their teammates totally committed to doing whatever it takes to win. Kobe is proving that this year. Jordan did it over and over with Horace Grant, Rodman, Longley, Kerr, B.J. Armstrong, Paxson, Ron Harper, you name them, Jordan got them to play.

There's just something missing in McGrady's temperment that causes him to not be able to influence his teammates like he needs to. I'm of the opinion that it will never happen. I believe that the person that is going to be able to develop that special "gift" is Yao Ming. The minute Yao starts calling out his mates on court and holding them accountable, this team will go to the next level. And it would be great if Mcgrady was there as his sidekick. McGrady calls them out, I've seen him do it. But it just doesn't have the same effect. It's like it's all about the past play and they say "I'm sorry", and all is forgotten. The other guys I mentioned would call players out and get them to MAKE A PLAY, not say they're sorry for the last bad play. They got their teammates to MAKE PLAYS by getting on them or pumping them up or WHATEVER they had to do to get them to make a play.

Tracy Mcgrady is rehabbing from surgery right now..Let him recover before you start bashing him..because if he comes back healthy as ever, and he's one of the top players in the league again everyones gonna be sweatin him again...

What about a 6'9 atheletic freak that doubled his rookie output and can get his own shot and finish at the rim? Maybe a Rudy Gay like player? What about Rudy Gay?

Thats the problem! When you to pull a game or a couple of games from memory to support the theory that tracy plays hard, that is not good. The way he played in game six is the way he needs to play on a consistant basis. That's all we ever wanted from him.

His main problem is his health. There's a difference between not performing because you physically aren't capable of it and not performing because you aren't healthy/lack work ethic/killer instinct.

We all have seen what he can do when he's healthy.

And Gay has become quite the MVP candidate. He's just another Kevin Durant.

The only thing wrong with him is his health. Also, his mentality has been affected by his injuries. He just needs to get more confident about attacking the basket.

Agreed. No one game is a good example of Tracy playing with heart. Plenty of times during the regular season Tracy showed indifference in the court. But I think some others have got it right in saying that Tracy's biggest problem is his teammates.

so you want him to put up 40 every night? that is impossible.

points are not the whole aspect of basketball. you gotta make your teammates better too. tracy does it. i know it looks like sometimes he gives up but damn, usually he plays hard. one night he has 40, the other night he has 10 asists...

He has a contract, I believe he is required to play.
Sometimes it seems like he doesn't care.
    He's missing a jumpshot and a 3rd scorer.
