I don't know if we are descended from aliens, monkeys, apes, an alien/monkey/ape hybrid, or were created by some power beyond my understanding. I really have no idea.

hehe, some friends of my parents named their boat "Bohica!" when I was a kid. I knew it was supposed to be bad but of course no one would tell me what it stood for, and I couldn't manage to guess it. (of course, when I remembered as an adult and asked, they told me)

I have no idea where my matching sock goes after it enters the washing machine. I'm convinced it's a portal to another dimension.

 

i use to think that also, but at it's really basic level, computers are very simple. without getting into too much detail, the most basic level of a computer is two silicon layers sandwich together making a "gate". the gate is a semi conductor and will only conduct electricity if certain conditions are met.

take for example the "and" gate, if put voltage through the first layer and voltage through the second layer, you'll get voltage out the other end of one of the layers. if you put voltage through one layer and not the second, the output layer won't conduct electricity. one gate usually has 4 possible outputs. (there are several different types of gates depending on the "doping" (or impurities) of the silicon.

the possibilities (or truth table) for an "and" gate is: (1=positive volts, 0=no volts, layer 1 + layer 2= output)
1+1=1,
1+0=0,
0+0=0,
0+1=0

these gates can be combined to make further possibilities. the output of two gates can be connected to the inputs of a third gate. now multiply that by a factor of billions... and you get a cpu. of course, i'm way over simplifying.

There's plenty to live for even if our parents die, and I am sure they would want for you to continue living and make them proud wherever they are. We are not here to decide how we should die or live, and should your mother die before you do, it was either destiny or something you couldn't help.

There is more than enough overwhelming evidence that our bodies have descended from apes, not monkeys, due to the fact that we have similar extremities, finger/toes, behavior, etc.

There is no evidence we descended from aliens or some "power beyond [your] understanding."

I have no clue as to what "prole" and "jelafied" mean. All I know is the poster who started them irritates the hell out of me.

I also don't know much about American football. I really don't have much interest in learning, either. I was never terribly interested in it. And I was born and raised in Houston, and my dad was a big football fan, so go figure.

I love video games and first-person shooters, and I have no idea how people learn to move the targeting reticule so quickly and accurately. I can finish games, certainly, but this has always amazed me.

I played sax for years and years. I was good, and I somehow have no idea how to improvise. Rather, I understand how it works, I was just never very good at it.

I have no idea how some people can follow one particular political theory. I can see both sides of most issues and sit squarely on the fence as a result. Hardcore party-liners baffle me.

I'm sure there's more.

In nature, living things evolve through changes in their DNA. In an animal like a chicken, DNA from a male sperm cell and a female ovum meet and combine to form a zygote -- the first cell of a new baby chicken. This first cell divides innumerable times to form all of the cells of the complete animal. In any animal, every cell contains exactly the same DNA, and that DNA comes from the zygote.

Chickens evolved from non-chickens through small changes caused by the mixing of male and female DNA or by mutations to the DNA that produced the zygote. These changes and mutations only have an effect at the point where a new zygote is created. That is, two non-chickens mated and the DNA in their new zygote contained the mutation(s) that produced the first true chicken. That one zygote cell divided to produce the first true chicken.

Prior to that first true chicken zygote, there were only non-chickens. The zygote cell is the only place where DNA mutations could produce a new animal, and the zygote cell is housed in the chicken's egg. So, the egg must have come first.

dude i'm getting thrown into the fire on some spreadsheets at work. I know excel basics, but beyond some simple formulas I'm lost.


edit: I'm the same about cars, I can change oil, break pads, and a few other things, beyond that I'm clueless. I remembe my starter was giving me trouble, and my dad was like clean some wire from the battery to the starter and I did and it worked. I'm like, how do you know that.

I just learned the concept of a combustion engine this last month because of a thread here.
